The Role


Purpose and Accountabilities: PI Center of Excellence (COE) is part of Real time and Asset Management Group within Software Engineering and focusing on providing Enterprise wide expertise for OSISoft PI portfolio. Team participates in architectural designing, capturing & promoting best practices, defining Standards and Cookbooks for Quality delivery, optimize the PI utilization, leverage synergies between Upstream, Downstream and P&T teams, Drive PI Life Cycle management and assure an innovative use of the OSIsoft PI portfolio. All Current COE specialist works with the Product Manager, WFC’s, Asset SOM and Other Key Stakeholders to define value drivers, implement work processes and effective use of this technology. Shell has established a new IT hub in Bangalore and plans to scale it up over a five-year period. The purpose of the IT Hub is to enable the Business by focusing on business outcomes, delivering fit for business technology solutions which enable business agility and profitable growth. We are looking for a software Engineer with >8 years’ experience to be part of the existing team in IT hub Bangalore, who have proven experience in supporting, configuring and deploying OSIsoft PI suite of applications preferably in the Oil & Gas industry. Besides the generic PI-CoE responsibilities mentioned above, the main purpose for this role will be to focus on the Leadership attributes which can help in designing and delivering PI COE Services and projects related to PI Suite of Applications across Globe. Candidate should be having Strong technical knowledge across several OSIsoft PI components like Interfaces, Data Archive, Asset Framework, Manual Logger, Analytics, Visualization, Data Access. Excellent communications and customer engagement skills are essential. Experience of deploying or supporting other Real Time applications would be an advantage. Accountabilities:
  • Guide and Support other team members to create excellence in delivery
  • Align team targets to business goals and focus on team efforts (Bottom Line)
  • Perform Real Time project delivery under the direction of an ITPT Delivery Lead or Business DV Project Manager or CC lead
  • Project delivery will include technical activities related to application deployment, upgrades, development, integration, configuration, testing and commissioning
  • Engage with business and IT stakeholders to ensure requirements and scope are clear
  • Work effectively with other IT teams such as Server Hosting, Network and PCD IT Security teams to ensure that infrastructure components are operational.
  • Contribute to successful AtD and AtO sign-off for projects.
  • Produce technical documentation as required to ensure successful implementation of deployment toolkits.
  • Ensure that projects are transitioned to support by delivering effective KT to the Asset SOM team
  • When required, perform user training (virtual or face-to-face) for client facing applications.
  • Engage with your peers in PI Centre of Excellence (PI CoE) to ensure architectural standardization for the OSIsoft PI application suite.
  • Engage with Business and / or GWC (PTX) on a need basis to understand business requirement

  • Although this is a fully hands-on role as you will have to deliver small enhancements single-handedly, this will also stretch your team management skills by not only looking after your own deliverables but also mentoring junior team members and taking responsibility of the team’s quality deliverables.

Skills and Requirements:
  • Significant experience in deployment of OSIsoft PI suite of applications (Relevant hands on minimum experience for at least 6 years)
  • Experience in Real Time or PI support environment will be considered, but evidence of successful deployment activities will be required
  • Experience of working with other Real Time applications or experience in a Control & Automation/DCS implementation role is desirable
  • Experience of Windows operating systems, relational databases (SQL Server, Oracle) and Microsoft Office applications
  • Experience of diagnosing and resolving technical problems associated with Real Time applications/projects
  • Experience of working in the Oil & Gas industry with a demonstrable understanding of Upstream or Downstream business processes
  • Experience in the preparation, review, revision, and maintenance of technical deployment toolkits including functional and detailed design, architecture documentation, system operations, testing, and user documentation
  • Experience of analyzing and documenting business requirements
  • Degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, other engineering discipline, IT or physical science
  • Formal certification/training in OSIsoft applications is desirable but proven technical experience can be taken into account
  • Ability to work in a virtual environment across organizational boundaries, diverse cultures and time zones
  • Ability to address any technical challenges that might prevent successful project delivery
