Introduction to the Team:

Are you passionate about helping travelers across the globe find the best destinations, accommodations, flights, and activities and provide feedback such as reviews, traveler photographs and ratings? Would you like to be a part of a journey to make sense of the massive data sets Expedia users are contributing to and help generate awesome insights via sentiment analysis, topic modelling, and other machine learning-based curation algorithms?

In this role, you will:

Contribute to the end-to-end product life cycle for mid to large-size projects: Design, development, testing, deployment, and providing operational excellence and support As a Software Development Engineer II, your primary responsibility is to design, develop, document, thoroughly test your code, and deploy it on production You will get to build your own automation and reporting tools to provide capabilities around the components/applications you own and will participate in troubleshooting Production issue Coordinate, and collaborate on multiple concurrent and complex cross-organizational initiatives Effectively build and maintain a network of key contacts across the company, and leverage these contacts to achieve results Communicate and work effectively with geographically distributed cross-functional teams Drive for continuous improvement in software and development process within an agile development team

Collaboration:

You will team up with peers across the organization to build an understanding of cross-dependencies and shared problem-solving. You will participate in a community of practice to share and gain knowledge.

Systems and Technological Integration:

You will understand the relationship between applications, databases and technology platforms.

Application Development /Programming:

You will develop and test complex or non-routine software applications and related programs and procedures to ensure they meet design requirements. You will write code that is clean, maintainable, optimized, and modular with good naming conventions. You will also use software frameworks to write simpler code. You will solve data requirements by applying your knowledge of databases and database design principles to solve data requirements.
You will clarify code evolution in code reviews.

Technical Communication/Presentation:

You will compile and generate reports on major operational or technical initiatives (like RCAs) to larger groups, whether via written or oral means.

Experience and

qualifications:

Bachelor's or Master's in computer science or related technical field; or equivalent related professional experience Up to 2 years of Software Development work experience using modern tech stack (Java, Kotlin, Spring boot, Mongo, Kafka, AWS) Excellent coding skills Solid understanding of Object Oriented Programming concepts, data structure, algorithms, and system-level programming (including multi-threaded programming) Good communication skills in written and verbal form Experience testing, automating, and instrumenting your code Prior experience developing MicroServices Experience in GraphQL, Kotlin, and ReactJS for UI is a plus
Working knowledge of Agile Software Development methodologies
