Job Description

• 2+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
• 1+ years of experience contributing to the architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems.
• Programming experience with at least one software programming language.

  A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related technical discipline
• Self-starter, quick learner and passionate problem resolver
• Excellent debugging and troubleshooting skills, with an enthusiastic attitude to support and resolve customer problems
• A strong desire to create quality solutions and designs
• Experience designing and developing software services by taking care of scalability, performance and reliability.
• Competency in a variety of modern programming languages (Java, Python, JavaScript), open-source technologies and frameworks.
• Proven ability to work in a fast paced, agile and in an ownership and results oriented culture.

The team's mandate is to provide the greatest experience for our millions of text book rental customers - both physical and digital. In addition to the Text book rental business, the team also work on launching Amazon Courseware platform - a brand new initiative which enable millions of Amazon customers to sign up for technical courses from Amazon.com.

We are seeking a self-directed Software Development Engineer who has experience in solving complex problems with simple solutions, implementing critical feature enhancements and contributing towards reducing tech debt of the team. This position is in Amazon Rental's Core Platform team which caters to the textbook rental business within the Education org.

Job responsibilities

• Engage with business and other stakeholders on the targeted initiatives.
• Work towards tech debt reduction of rental services.
• Implement and maintain full CD pipelines for Rental services.
• Coach and mentor junior engineers in the team.
• Effective on-call support.

• Ability to deal with ambiguous problems and articulate technical challenges and solutions to complex problems
• Practical experience with software engineering best-practices
• Experience working with NoSQL systems and Cloud/AWS technologies
• Proficiency with at least one of these scripting languages: Perl / Python / Ruby / shell script
• Excellent interpersonal communication
