Background of The Hans Foundation



The Hans Foundation (THF), established in 2009, is a Public Charitable Trust that works towards creating an equitable society to enhance quality of life for all through the empowerment of marginalized and underprivileged communities in India. The Hans Foundation works for the Health and Wellbeing of remote and under-served groups, with an additional focus on children, persons with disabilities and women. THF also works for holistic Education and Livelihood development of our communities. Our Two-Fold Strategy involves identifying and working within Aspirational Districts and high poverty index in the North, North-East and East regions within specific states, as well as catering to lower-income and migratory populations in cities, through urban programs.

Over its 15 years of existence, THF has reached more than 35 million beneficiaries through its programs. THF works with communities through direct implementation of projects on the ground in addition to providing local management and monitoring support to not-for-profit organisations in India funded through THF USA and RIST.

Background of the Project

Hans Paediatric Program (HPP) - "Strengthening Child Health, Securing Futures"

The Hans Paediatric Program (HPP) is a nationwide initiative focused on enhancing the health and overall well-being of children aged 0 to 18 years. The program addresses critical health challenges, including congenital conditions, life-threatening illnesses, and disabilities, through comprehensive, long-term interventions. A key component is the

Cochlear Implant Program

, which provides children with profound bilateral hearing loss access to state-of-the-art cochlear implants, coupled with pre- and post-surgery therapy and parental counselling to ensure optimal auditory and speech development. Beneficiaries are identified by hospitals and partner institutions, after which THF conducts a structured review and approval process to ensure appropriate support and interventions.

Roles & Responsibilities

1. Case Follow-up & Support

Follow up with ~1100 cochlear implantees operated since 2013; minimum 10 calls daily. Maintain call logs and beneficiary tracking reports. Counsel patients and families; provide psychosocial support and linkages to services.

2. Disability Certification & Government Schemes

Facilitate UDID and disability certificate issuance (target: 70% coverage in 6 months). Support enrollment in state disability pension schemes (target: 50% of eligible children). Guide parents on accessing educational fee relaxations, scholarships, and inclusive education benefits.

3. Awareness & Capacity Building

Conduct telephonic/group awareness sessions on disability rights, entitlements, and social schemes. Develop simple guidance materials (FAQs, checklists) for parents.

4. Monitoring & Documentation

Maintain updated beneficiary database covering certifications, pensions, and educational support. Submit monthly progress reports highlighting achievements, challenges, and corrective actions.

5. Problem-Solving & Community Linkages

Identify challenges faced by families in accessing government schemes; escalate unresolved cases. Recommend policy or administrative improvements based on field feedback. Build collaborations with NGOs, disability associations, and community leaders to strengthen long-term support and rehabilitation.

6. Case Management & Coordination

Assist doctors in assessments and emergencies. Maintain referral systems with other specialties. Liaise with administrators, professionals, community leaders, and barefoot social workers. Organize training programs and counselling sessions for families.

Qualification & Skills

Educational Qualification:

MA in Social Work (Disability Studies, Public Health, Development Studies, Education, Child Rights, etc.) MSW / MDRA / MRSc / MSc Psychosocial Rehabilitation / Psychiatric Social Work

Experience & Skills:

3-5 years of experience in the disability sector. RCI Registration mandatory. Strong written/verbal communication and multicultural team collaboration skills. Attention to detail and ability to manage sensitive/confidential information. Empathetic, compassionate, and child-focused attitude. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
