Bala Mandir, as an NGO, has launched the Kinship Care program as one of the first few in India where a social welfare organization is supporting COVID-19-impacted children. Bala Mandir supports 2000 children under 12 years under this program in 15 districts of Tamil Nadu.
The Kinship Care program will help the children deal with the setback caused by losing the parent(s) and improve their chances of reaching their full potential. Through this program, Bala Mandir is creating 'Virtual Homes,' where the children will get focused support for their holistic development from dedicated field social workers for each district.
Many children have lost one or both parents to Covid 19; in most cases, the breadwinner is no more. Many of these children continue to live with their families.
There is a definite need to reach out to these children and provide financial and psychological support.
Recognizing this need, Bala Mandir is engaging with these children in Tamil Nadu under the Kinship Care program.
Kinship Care is the full-time care of a child by a surviving single parent, relative, or extended family member.
Caregivers (the next of kin) must receive the support they require to care for the child - Bala Mandir provides this under Kinship Care.
