Job Description

Key ResponsibilitiesThe specific duties may vary depending on whether the engineer is in a design, construction, or maintenance role, but the core responsibilities include:

Planning & Design:

Conducting feasibility studies, analyzing traffic patterns, and assessing environmental impacts to determine the most practical and sustainable road designs. This involves using specialized software like AutoCAD and Civil 3D to create detailed plans and specifications for geometric alignment, pavement thickness, and drainage systems.

Construction Oversight:

Supervising construction activities to ensure the project adheres to the design specifications, quality standards, budget, and timeline. This includes managing on-site teams, coordinating materials and equipment, and conducting regular site inspections.

Project Management:

Preparing cost estimates, budgets, and project schedules, as well as managing resources and preparing tender/contract documents. They also prepare reports and presentations for stakeholders, clients, and government agencies.

Safety & Compliance:

Ensuring all projects comply with local, state, and national regulations, safety standards, and environmental laws. They perform risk assessments and implement safety improvement plans.

Maintenance & Repair:

Planning and overseeing the maintenance and rehabilitation of existing road networks to ensure their longevity and safety.
Required Qualifications and Skills

Education:

A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field is typically the minimum requirement, often supplemented by a Master's degree for senior positions.

Licensing:

A Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification is often required to take on significant responsibility and management roles.

Technical Skills:

Proficiency in engineering software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation), strong mathematical and analytical skills, and a deep understanding of construction methods and materials.

Soft Skills:

Excellent communication (written and verbal), problem-solving, decision-making, attention to detail, and leadership/teamwork skills are essential for collaborating with diverse stakeholders and managing teams.
