The Site Engineer is a critical front-line role responsible for the technical supervision, coordination, and execution of construction activities on-site. This individual ensures that the project is built according to design specifications, quality standards, project schedule, and budget. The role demands a hands-on leader who can effectively manage resources, enforce safety protocols, and serve as the key link between the project management, site workforce, and support departments like Purchase and Accounts.
Key Roles & Responsibilities
1. Technical & Engineering Supervision
Study and understand all project drawings, specifications, and BOQ (Bill of Quantities).
Set out the site, including levelling, surveying, and marking reference points, to guide the construction work.
Check and verify dimensions, levels, and alignment of all structural elements.
Resolve technical issues and discrepancies that arise during construction, consulting with the design team and Project Manager as needed.
Ensure all work complies with relevant codes, standards, and legal regulations.
2. Project Planning & Progress Monitoring
Assist the Project Manager in developing detailed work schedules and resource plans.
Prepare and submit the Daily Progress Report (DPR)
to the Purchase Team with a copy to the Accounts Team, providing a clear snapshot of work accomplished, resources used, and any delays.
Monitor project progress against the baseline schedule and report any potential deviations proactively.
3. Material Management
Raise Purchase Requests (PR)
for materials and services as needed, coordinating with the design team and Project Manager. (Copied to Logistics & Resource teams).
Receive, inspect, and verify all materials delivered to the site
for quantity, quality, and specification compliance.
Generate and disseminate the Material Received Note (MRN)
to the Project Manager, Purchase Team, and Accounts Team, officially confirming delivery and initiating the payment process.
Oversee on-site material storage, handling, and security to prevent damage, loss, or theft.
4. Labour & Resource Management
Monitor, record, and submit daily Labour Attendance
for all workers and subcontractors to the Purchase Team with a copy to the Accounts Team for payroll processing and cost control.
Supervise and direct the site workforce, including foremen, skilled labour, and helpers.
Ensure optimal utilization of manpower, machinery, and equipment on site.
5. Quality Control & Assurance
Conduct regular inspections of workmanship and materials to ensure they meet the project's quality standards.
Implement and monitor Quality Control (QC) checklists and procedures.
Coordinate with quality inspectors such as design team and respective structural and MEP consultants as required.
6. Health, Safety & Environment
Enforce all company and statutory health, safety, and environmental regulations on site.
Conduct daily toolbox talks and ensure all personnel and subcontractors adhere to safe work practices.
Identify and mitigate potential safety hazards. Report and document any incidents or near-misses.
7. Documentation & Communication
Maintain accurate and up-to-date site records, including diaries, logs, drawing registers, inspection reports, and as-built drawings.
Serve as the primary on-site communication link, providing regular updates to the Project Manager and coordinating with the Purchase, Accounts, and Design teams as per the defined workflows.
Participate in site meetings with clients, consultants, and subcontractors.

Qualifications & Experience
Diploma or Bachelor's degree in civil engineering.
A minimum of 5-10 years of experience as a Site Engineer in a construction company.
Proficiency in AutoCAD, MS Office (especially Excel), and project management software.
Knowledge of surveying instruments and setting-out techniques.
Professional certification (e.g., PE, PMP) is an advantage.
