Shot blasters execute abrasive blasting tasks, primarily responsible for cleaning, smoothing, or shaping surfaces using specialized machinery. Duties include operating blasting equipment, maintaining safety protocols, and inspecting finished work.
Responsibilities:
Operate shot blasting equipment to clean and prepare surfaces for painting or coating
Inspect surfaces to ensure that they are free of dirt, grease, rust, and other contaminants
Load and unload materials into blasting cabinets or rooms
Monitor and adjust blasting equipment to ensure proper pressure, flow, and distance
Select appropriate blasting media based on the material being cleaned and the desired finish
Follow safety procedures to protect themselves and others from accidents or injuries
Perform routine maintenance on blasting equipment to ensure that it is in good working order
Record and maintain accurate records of work performed, including materials used and time spent on each task
Requirements:
Must have experience operating shot blasting equipment
Ability to read and interpret work orders and blueprints
Knowledge of different types of abrasives and their applications
Physically capable of standing for long periods of time and lifting heavy objects
Familiarity with safety procedures and ability to adhere to them
Attention to detail and ability to maintain equipment
Good communication skills and ability to work in a team environment
Willingness to work in varying environmental conditions, including outdoor locations, as required
