The VMC Shift In-Charge is responsible for overseeing the efficient and effective operation of Vertical Machining Centers (VMCs) during their assigned shift. This role ensures that production targets are met, quality standards are upheld, and safety protocols are strictly followed.
Key Responsibilities
Shift Operations Management:
Oversee daily operations of VMC machines to ensure optimal performance and adherence to production schedules.
Coordinate with maintenance and quality control teams to address any machine or process issues promptly.
Team Supervision and Leadership:
Supervise and guide a team of VMC operators, setters, and technicians.
Assign tasks, monitor performance, and provide training to enhance team skills and productivity.
Quality Control:
Ensure that all machined parts meet specified quality standards and tolerances.
Implement corrective actions for any deviations and maintain detailed records of quality checks.
Machine and Tooling Maintenance:
Monitor the condition of VMC machines and tooling; coordinate routine maintenance and repairs.
Ensure that all equipment is calibrated and functioning correctly to prevent production delays.
Problem Solving and Troubleshooting:
Address and resolve operational issues swiftly to minimize downtime.
Analyze root causes of recurring problems and implement preventive measures.
Safety and Compliance:
Enforce adherence to safety standards and company policies.
Conduct regular safety audits and ensure that all team members are trained on safety protocols.
Production Monitoring and Reporting:
Track production metrics and report on shift performance.
Identify areas for improvement and implement strategies to enhance efficiency.
Inventory Management:
Monitor stock levels of raw materials and consumables; coordinate with procurement for timely replenishment.
Maintain accurate records of inventory usage and wastage.
Continuous Improvement:
Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to optimize machining processes.
Encourage team involvement in suggesting and implementing process enhancements.
Communication:
Maintain clear and effective communication with team members and management.
Provide detailed shift handover reports to ensure smooth transitions between shifts.
Experience
Minimum of
3-5 years
of experience working with VMC machines, with at least
1-2 years
in a leadership or supervisory role.
Required Skills
Strong understanding of VMC machine setup, operation, and troubleshooting.
Proficient in reading technical drawings, blueprints, and CAD/CAM programs.
Knowledge of CNC programming (G-code), machine tools, and tooling management.
Strong leadership, team management, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to monitor production performance and implement corrective actions when necessary.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically in fast-paced environments.
In-depth knowledge of safety standards and practices in a manufacturing setting.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Qualifications
ITI Fitter
or equivalent technical certification.
Diploma in Mechanical Engineering
or a related field.
