Role Overview
The Shift In Charge will be responsible for supervising and managing all melting and casting activities during the shift, ensuring smooth, safe, and stable operation of the horizontal continuous casting (HCC) line for Copper-Nickel and other copper-based alloys. The role demands strong technical expertise in alloy metallurgy, furnace operations, and hands-on decision-making to ensure quality, productivity, and adherence to safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Management
Oversee and manage end-to-end production activities on the horizontal continuous casting line during the shift.
Ensure continuous, stable, and efficient operation of melting furnaces, alloy preparation, and molten-metal handling processes.
Review, monitor, and interpret process parameters; make real-time adjustments to maintain product quality and process stability.
Coordinate with upstream and downstream teams to ensure smooth material flow and minimize downtime.
Technical Expertise
Apply strong knowledge of copper-based alloys metallurgy, including Cu-Ni, brass, and speciality alloys.
Supervise furnace operation, charge mix preparation, temperature control, and melt chemistry correction.
Ensure proper handling, refining, degassing, and transfer of molten metal for casting.
Support troubleshooting of casting line equipment, furnace systems, and auxiliary machinery.
Team & Shift Management
Lead and supervise the shift team, ensuring clarity of roles, task distribution, and timely execution.
Provide guidance, coaching, and on-the-job support to technicians and operators.
Ensure shift logbooks, production data, and abnormality reports are updated accurately.
Quality & Safety Compliance
Ensure adherence to foundry safety norms, SOPs, PPE compliance, and safe molten-metal handling practices.
Promote and sustain 5S, lean practices, and a disciplined shop-floor environment.
Collaborate with quality teams to ensure metallurgical consistency and zero defect output.
Problem-Solving & Troubleshooting
Identify and resolve process deviations, equipment abnormalities, and quality issues promptly.
Lead root-cause analysis (RCA) for breakdowns, casting defects, or process instability.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity and reduce scrap generation.
Qualifications & Experience
Diploma/B.Tech in Metallurgy/Mechanical/Production Engineering.
4-8 years of experience in melting, casting, and foundry operations--preferably in copper-based alloys.
Hands-on expertise with horizontal continuous casting processes.
