Job Description

The Shift Engineer is responsible for supervising and managing production operations during the assigned shift in the sheet metal manufacturing unit. This role ensures smooth workflow, machine efficiency, quality adherence, workforce coordination, and safety compliance.

Key Responsibilities1. Production & Operations



Monitor and manage sheet metal production activities throughout the shift. Ensure machines (laser cutting, bending, punching, welding, fabrication, etc.) operate at optimum efficiency. Coordinate with operators and technicians to achieve daily production targets. Minimize machine downtime and ensure immediate corrective action in case of breakdowns. Oversee material flow, availability of raw materials, and WIP movement.

2. Quality Control



Ensure product quality meets customer and internal specifications. Conduct in-process quality checks and ensure adherence to ISO/TS standards. Identify quality issues and support root-cause analysis with the quality team. Implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).

3. Maintenance & Technical Support



Assist maintenance team in preventive and breakdown maintenance. Ensure machines such as press brakes, shearing machines, CNC laser, turret punch, MIG/TIG welding units are functioning correctly. Report repeated technical issues for long-term solutions.

4. Workforce Management



Manage and supervise operators, helpers, welders, and technicians during the shift. Conduct shift meetings and allocate tasks based on skill and workload. Ensure shift discipline, attendance, and adherence to company policies.

5. Safety & Compliance



Enforce workplace safety standards, PPE usage, and safe machine operations. Conduct safety checks and report hazards immediately. Ensure compliance with ISO, 5S, and lean manufacturing practices.

6. Reporting & Documentation



Maintain shift reports on production, scrap, downtime, and manpower. Log machine performance, breakdown issues, and maintenance activities. Handover detailed shift reports to the next shift engineer.

Required Skills & QualificationsEducation



Diploma / B.Tech in Mechanical, Production, or Industrial Engineering.

Experience



2-5 years of experience in sheet metal fabrication industry. Hands-on experience with CNC sheet metal machines preferred.

Technical Skills



Knowledge of sheet metal manufacturing processes. Understanding of engineering drawings and GD&T. Familiarity with CNC programming basics is an advantage. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

Soft Skills



Leadership and team-handling ability. Good communication and reporting skills. Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment. Strong attention to detail and quality.

Working Conditions



Rotational shift work (Morning / Evening / Night). Shop-floor environment with heavy machinery. Required to wear PPE and follow safety norms.

Pay: ₹20,000.00 - ₹30,000.00 per month
