The Shift Chemist - Production is responsible for overseeing and managing chemical processes during manufacturing operations across assigned shifts. The role ensures that all production activities comply with safety standards, quality control requirements, and regulatory guidelines. The Shift Chemist conducts routine testing, analyses results, troubleshoots process issues, and collaborates with cross-functional teams to maintain efficient and consistent production.
Key Roles & Responsibilities:1. Chemical Process Monitoring and Control
Oversee day-to-day chemical process operations during assigned shifts, ensuring adherence to standard procedures and process parameters.
Monitor machinery and equipment performance, reporting any malfunctions or deviations immediately.
Adjust process parameters such as temperature, pressure, flow rates, and chemical composition to maintain product quality.
Collaborate with the production team to ensure efficient raw material usage and minimize waste.
2. Quality Control & Testing
Conduct routine sampling and testing of intermediate and final products.
Document, interpret, and analyze test results, identifying deviations and implementing corrective actions.
Troubleshoot product quality issues and perform root-cause analysis as needed.
Maintain, calibrate, and verify laboratory equipment for accuracy and reliability.
3. Safety & Compliance
Adhere strictly to safety protocols and regulatory requirements.
Identify, assess, and report potential hazards and process-related risks.
Maintain and update Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for all chemicals used.
Conduct safety inspections, participate in audits, and support incident investigation activities.
4. Documentation & Reporting
Maintain accurate and timely records of production processes, test results, and equipment maintenance activities.
Prepare comprehensive shift handover reports.
Generate reports on production performance, quality metrics, and chemical consumption.
Ensure all documentation complies with industry standards and company policies.
5. Team Collaboration
Work closely with other shift chemists, operators, engineers, production managers, and maintenance teams.
Provide guidance on chemical handling, safety practices, and equipment operation.
Train new employees on chemical processes, safety procedures, and quality control guidelines.
6. Troubleshooting & Problem-Solving
Respond quickly to process deviations, equipment malfunctions, and quality concerns.
Support maintenance teams to reduce downtime and enhance equipment reliability.
Identify opportunities for process optimization and collaborate with engineering teams for improvements.
Requirements and Skills:
Strong understanding of chemical processes, laboratory techniques, and safety regulations.
Hands-on experience with analytical instruments (spectrophotometers, titrators, pH meters, chromatographs, etc.).
Ability to operate, monitor, and troubleshoot production equipment.
Strong analytical, diagnostic, and problem-solving abilities.
Excellent communication, documentation, and reporting skills.
Ability to multitask and perform effectively under pressure.
High attention to detail with strong accuracy and process discipline.
