The Service Manager is responsible for overseeing the service department's operations, ensuring customer satisfaction, maximizing productivity, and managing the service staff. This role requires leadership, technical knowledge of automotive systems, strong customer service skills, and the ability to manage a team of service advisors, technicians, and support staff.
Key Responsibilities:
Team Management:
Supervise and lead service advisors, technicians, porters, and other support staff.
Recruit, train, and evaluate service department employees.
Schedule employees to maintain optimal staffing levels.
Conduct performance reviews and implement improvement plans.
Customer Service:
Ensure a high level of customer satisfaction.
Address customer complaints or concerns promptly and professionally.
Monitor and improve CSI (Customer Satisfaction Index) scores.
Promote service offerings and upsell maintenance services and products.
Operations Management:
Oversee daily operations of the service department.
Manage service scheduling and ensure timely repair turnaround.
Monitor workflow and productivity of technicians.
Ensure compliance with all safety and environmental regulations.
Financial Responsibilities:
Set and achieve sales and profitability targets.
Monitor department expenses and budget.
Approve repair orders, discounts, and warranty claims.
Track KPIs including labor sales, parts sales, effective labor rate, and technician efficiency.
Inventory and Equipment:
Ensure service tools and equipment are maintained and operational.
Monitor parts inventory with the parts department to ensure availability.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent; Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred.
Minimum of 10-15 years of experience in automotive service, with at least 1-2 years in a management role.
Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
Excellent communication and customer service skills.
Proficiency with DMS systems (e.g., CDK, Reynolds & Reynolds) and Microsoft Office.
Work Environment:
Fast-paced dealership environment.
Regular interaction with customers, technicians, and dealership leadership.
May require standing for long periods and working in shop conditions (heat, noise, fumes).
