Role Overview



We are seeking a

Senior Video Editor

to join the

Demos Project's Creative Unit

in Chennai. This role is pivotal in driving the execution of high-impact video content for a digital political campaign. The ideal candidate will have end-to-end video editing expertise--ranging from raw footage assembly to final delivery--across a diverse range of political storytelling formats.

A deep understanding of

Tamil Nadu's political landscape

, strong narrative instincts, and the ability to produce high-volume content under tight deadlines are essential. Beyond technical skills, the role demands

strategic thinking

to ensure video outputs effectively influence public sentiment and campaign messaging.

Key Responsibilities


1.

High-Quality Video Editing



Produce engaging, professional videos suitable for digital platforms, including

campaign messages, leader speeches, montages, field footage, event recaps, and outreach videos.

Manage

transitions, pacing, music scoring, voice syncing, animated text,

and

overlays in alignment

with the

campaign's tone and visual language.


2.

Platform-Specific Adaptation



Format and export videos for social platforms like

Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, WhatsApp, and X (Twitter)

, ensuring optimal resolution, aspect ratio, compression, subtitles, and branding. Work across various formats: vertical (9:16), square (1:1), and landscape (16:9), with appropriate thumbnail and CTA placements.
3.

Visual and Narrative Enhancement



Accurately

subtitle videos in Tamil and English

, maintaining tone and readability. Enhance engagement through graphics, transitions, kinetic typography, and relevant sound design. Collaborate with AI editors and graphic designers to integrate

AI-generated visuals

or animation into edits.
4.

Workflow and Asset Management



Maintain a structured project archive, version control system, and organized folder hierarchy. Collaborate with the Creative Director for feedback loops, revisions, and final approvals. Safeguard all sensitive and confidential video assets.
5.

Team Coordination & Mentorship



Guide junior editors during high-output cycles, offering support and mentorship. Help establish editing standards, visual style guides, and turnaround timelines for recurring and urgent content. Coordinate with design and copy teams to ensure message and visual alignment.
6.

Delivery-Oriented Execution



Provide

on-the-spot editing

support during live events, media interactions, or public appearances. Deliver high-quality, fast-turnaround content without compromising on quality. Be accountable for daily and milestone-based deliverables as per campaign plans.
7.

Additional Responsibilities



Implement

advanced sound design

to meet campaign standards for dialogue clarity, effects, and music. Stay updated with new tools and technologies (e.g., AI content generation) to enhance creative output. Apply

political context and narrative strategy

to all editing choices to ensure alignment with campaign goals.

Required Qualifications and SkillsEducation



Bachelor's degree or diploma in Video Editing, Visual Communication, Media Production, or a related field.

Experience



4-6 years of professional experience in video editing,

preferably in political communication, media houses, creative agencies, or campaign teams. A

strong portfolio

showcasing digital-first political or advocacy content is mandatory.

Technical Skills



Proficiency in editing software like

Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or DaVinci Resolve.

Experience with motion graphics tools such as After Effects or animated templates. Familiarity with rapid-editing tools like

CapCut, InShot,

etc., for short-form content. Skills in color grading, audio mastering, chroma keying, and video compression. Exposure to AI-powered visuals, avatars, or cinematic enhancements.

Creative & Strategic Attributes



Strong storytelling instincts with a focus on political impact and emotional resonance. Visual creativity with a clear understanding of regional sentiment and campaign messaging. In-depth knowledge of

Tamil Nadu's political

and

cultural nuances.

Highly organized, disciplined, and proactive in handling editing workflows and deadlines.

Work Expectations



Willingness to work extended hours, weekends, or on-call during campaign peaks. Comfort with handling confidential, time-sensitive political content. Ability to manage multiple parallel projects under guidance and with quick turnarounds.
