Senior Technical Designer - Babywear Division
Role Objective
To lead the technical development of babywear products -- ensuring fit accuracy, fabric compatibility, and production feasibility -- while aligning designs with brand aesthetics, market trends, and customer comfort expectations.
Key Responsibilities
1. Product Design Translation
o Collaborate with the design team to translate creative concepts into production-ready styles.
o Interpret sketches, mood boards, and fabric selections into accurate tech packs.
o Maintain brand design language and ensure it reflects comfort, safety, and current trends.
2. Pattern Development & Fit
o Develop, analyze, and correct base patterns for each babywear category.
o Manage sample fittings on dummies and live babies to ensure functional comfort and mobility.
o Record and communicate precise fit correction notes and tolerance changes.
3. Measurement & Grading Expertise
o Maintain and evolve brand size charts and grading rules (0-3M, 3-6M, 6-12M, etc.).
o Ensure measurement accuracy during sampling and production.
o Lead 'fit library' creation -- storing approved blocks and measurement data for future use.
4. Fabric, Trims & Construction
o Assess fabric handfeel, GSM, and stretch compatibility for babywear.
o Approve trims and finishes ensuring baby-safety compliance (nickel-free, lead-free, skin-safe).
o Recommend suitable seam types, stitch tension, and thread specifications.
5. Technical Documentation
o Prepare and update detailed Tech Packs, Spec Sheets, and Operation Bulletins.
o Work with production teams to ensure pattern accuracy and design integrity.
o Oversee sample documentation, fit reviews, and pattern archives.
6. Software & Tool Application
o Proficient in Gerber, Optitex, or CLO3D for digital patterning and 3D fit simulation.
o Knowledge of Adobe Illustrator / Photoshop for design sketching.
o Manage digital files, version control, and design databases.
7. Market Research & Trend Analysis
o Stay updated on global babywear trends, safety regulations, and functional design innovations.
o Benchmark fits and finishes against premium global brands.
o Translate insights into product improvements and seasonal direction.
8. Production Collaboration
o Support the manufacturing unit with pattern layout, grading markers, and construction guidance.
o Participate in pre-production meetings and troubleshoot technical issues.
o Approve final PP samples for production release.
Skill Requirements
o Advanced pattern-making and garment construction knowledge
o Strong understanding of babywear ergonomics and safety standards
o Excellent analytical, measurement, and visualization skills
o Hands-on experience with digital pattern software and CAD tools
o Deep understanding of knitwear behavior, shrinkage, and stretch dynamics
o Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
Experience
8-12 years of experience as a Technical Designer or Product Developer in knitwear / babywear.
Proven record of developing fit blocks and technical foundations for new brands.
Education
Bachelor's or Master's in Fashion Technology, Apparel Design, or Clothing Production Technology.
