Senior Systems Engineer

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

Operate and enhance enterprise Linux and Windows Server estates across physical, virtual (e.g., VMware), and cloud workloads, ensuring high availability and performance.

Own end-to-end lifecycle for Dell PowerEdge and HP/HPE ProLiant servers, including provisioning, firmware/BIOS updates, driver baselines, hardware health, and remote management via iDRAC and iLO.

Administer and optimize Dell/EMC storage platforms (for example, PowerStore, Unity/Unity XT, Isilon/PowerScale) including LUN/NFS/SMB provisioning, RAID, tiering, replication, snapshots, and performance tuning; manage SAN fabrics (zoning, multipath, HBAs).

Operate Dell/EMC backup appliances and software (for example, Data Domain with DD Boost, NetWorker, Avamar), ensuring reliable backup/restore, retention policies, replication, DR readiness, and periodic recovery testing.

Implement and improve incident, problem, and change management (aligned to ITIL), including on-call participation, RCA leadership, and change execution with low failure rates.

Execute capacity planning, performance tuning, patching, backup/restore, and lifecycle activities with clear SLAs, automation, and measurable KPIs.

Build and maintain observability (monitoring, logging, alerting, SLOs) using modern tooling to produce actionable alerts and service health dashboards.

Champion automation-first operations with Infrastructure-as-Code and configuration management, creating reusable modules, standardized baselines, and automated runbooks.

Partner with Security to implement OS and platform hardening, vulnerability remediation, secrets management, least-privilege access, and audit-ready controls.

Support DR/BCP by maintaining tested backups, replication policies, recovery runbooks, and assisting with failover drills.

Maintain accurate asset/CMDB data, environment documentation, and operational SOPs; contribute to golden images and baseline standards.

Drive cost efficiency through right-sizing, scheduled scaling, and license/utilization hygiene across on-prem and cloud estates.

Coordinate vendor RMA and field support, handle spares strategy, and manage data center tasks including rack/stack, structured cabling, labeling, and environmental monitoring.

Qualifications

7-10 years in infrastructure/server operations with deep hands-on experience supporting production systems in global environments.

Strong expertise in Linux (RHEL/Ubuntu) and Windows Server administration, including performance tuning, patching, and troubleshooting at kernel/OS and platform layers.

Hands-on experience with Dell PowerEdge and HP/HPE ProLiant server platforms, including iDRAC/iLO, OpenManage/OneView, firmware lifecycle management, RAID, and hardware diagnostics.

Proficient with Dell/EMC storage (for example, PowerStore, Unity/Unity XT, Isilon/PowerScale) and SAN/NAS operations, including Fibre Channel zoning, multipath configurations, and storage performance troubleshooting.

Practical experience with Dell/EMC backup ecosystems such as Data Domain (DD Boost), NetWorker, and Avamar, including policy design, backup/restore optimization, replication, and DR testing.

Proficient with virtualization (e.g., VMware), enterprise storage, and backup technologies, including snapshotting, replication, and recovery processes.

Hands-on experience with at least one major cloud platform (AWS, Azure, or GCP) operating server workloads, IAM basics, and cost-aware architecture.

Practical ownership of ITIL processes for incident, problem, and change management, with strong metrics discipline (availability, MTTR, change success)

Proven observability experience with tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, ELK/Elastic, Splunk, Datadog, Zabbix, or Nagios, including alert tuning and runbook automation.

Strong automation skills with Infrastructure-as-Code (e.g., Terraform) and configuration management (e.g., Ansible, Chef, or Puppet), plus scripting in Python, Bash, or PowerShell.

Familiarity with Kubernetes operations, container runtimes, and image hardening, or practical experience supporting containerized workloads.

Working knowledge of security and compliance frameworks (e.g., ISO 27001, SOC 2), vulnerability management, and audit readiness.

Excellent communication, documentation habits, and the ability to collaborate across time zones and functions

Nice to Have

Certifications such as Dell EMC Proven Professional, HPE ASE/ATP, VMware VCP, or AWS/Azure Associate.

Experience in financial services or other regulated industries with higher control rigor.

Exposure to Active Directory, LDAP, SSO, and privileged access management.

Experience with DR rehearsals, site failovers, and hybrid multi-cloud patterns.

Understanding of Zero Trust principles and host-level hardening at scale.

Work Model and Hours

Bangalore-based with flexibility to collaborate across global time zones.

Participation in a structured on-call rotation, plus occasional evening/weekend maintenance windows for 24x7 operations.
