Job Description

A Senior Staff Nurse is an experienced registered nurse with advanced clinical skills who oversees a designated nursing unit, providing direct patient care, supervising junior nurses, managing patient assignments, ensuring quality care standards are met, and acting as a clinical leader within their area, often with additional responsibilities like staff education and quality improvement initiatives. Key responsibilities of a Senior Staff Nurse:

Patient Care Management:

Assess patient needs, develop and implement individualized care plans. Administer medications and treatments as prescribed. Monitor vital signs and patient condition. Perform complex nursing procedures as required. Provide patient education and discharge planning.

Leadership and Supervision:

Assign tasks and delegate work to junior nurses Monitor staff performance and provide feedback Lead and coordinate nursing team activities Conduct staff meetings and provide clinical updates Mentor and train new nurses

Quality Improvement:

Identify and report potential safety concerns Participate in quality improvement initiatives Monitor and maintain compliance with clinical standards

Administrative Duties:

Maintain accurate patient records and documentation Manage ward supplies and inventory Coordinate with other healthcare professionals Respond to emergencies and critical situations
Required Skills and Qualifications:

Current registered nurse license Significant experience as a staff nurse in relevant clinical area Strong clinical judgment and decision-making skills Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Leadership qualities and ability to supervise others Knowledge of quality improvement methodologies Proficiency in electronic health records and clinical software
