Job Summary:

The Senior Staff Nurse - ICU provides advanced nursing care to critically ill patients and plays a key leadership role in coordinating and supervising nursing activities within the Intensive Care Unit. This role involves mentoring junior nurses, managing complex patient cases, ensuring adherence to clinical standards, and contributing to the continuous improvement of ICU practices.

Key Responsibilities:Clinical Duties:

Deliver high-level, evidence-based care to critically ill patients requiring intensive monitoring and complex interventions. Perform advanced assessments and initiate appropriate interventions based on patient condition. Administer high-risk medications, manage ventilators, central lines, arterial lines, and other life-support equipment. Respond to emergencies, code blues, and lead resuscitative efforts when needed. Ensure accurate and timely documentation in the patient's electronic health record (EHR).

Leadership & Supervision:

Supervise and support staff nurses and healthcare assistants in daily clinical duties. Act as a resource person and role model for clinical staff in the ICU. Delegate responsibilities appropriately while maintaining overall accountability. Assist the ICU Nurse Manager in workforce planning, scheduling, and resource allocation.

Mentoring & Education:

Support orientation and training of new and junior nursing staff. Provide clinical teaching and mentorship to enhance team competence. Lead by example in maintaining professional standards and a culture of continuous learning.

Quality & Compliance:

Ensure adherence to hospital protocols, infection control practices, and national guidelines. Participate in audits, incident reporting, and quality improvement initiatives. Contribute to policy development and evidence-based practice updates.
