The Role

We are looking for a

Senior Staff Engineer

to play a pivotal individual contributor role in building some of Deliveroo's most critical, scalable, and high-performance systems. This role is ideal for someone who thrives on solving deep technical problems, enjoys working across a globally distributed team, and has hands-on experience delivering large-scale, full-stack platforms in a fast-paced, B2C environment.

What You'll Be Doing

Lead the architecture, design, and implementation of resilient, scalable systems across backend, web, and mobile technologies. Act as a technical expert and hands-on contributor, driving complex, org-wide initiatives from concept to execution. Collaborate with engineering leaders, product managers, and cross-functional teams to define and deliver high-impact solutions. Review code, mentor engineers, and elevate technical excellence across the organisation. Influence and execute strategic engineering direction across multiple domains. Identify areas for improvement across system performance, reliability, and developer productivity. Help shape the adoption of modern technologies including

Generative AI and Agentic AI frameworks

for business-critical applications. Defines and executes strategies for company-wide AI tooling adoption. Builds custom AI-based solutions that significantly improve engineering velocity or system quality.

We're Excited About You If You Have:

Deep technical expertise across the stack, with extensive hands-on experience in backend, mobile, and web development. Proven track record designing and delivering large-scale, distributed systems in B2C domains. Strong knowledge of system architecture, performance engineering, observability, and cloud infrastructure. Experience with

Java/Golang, Kotlin/Swift/ReactJS/ReactNative, AWS Cloud, Kafka

. Strong understanding of AI-native software development, including real-world application of

Gen AI/Agentic AI frameworks

. Demonstrated ability to work across globally distributed teams and drive alignment across stakeholders. A collaborative, growth-oriented mindset and ability to influence and mentor across all levels.

You've architected and delivered systems that scale to millions of users globally. Your contributions have materially improved system reliability, engineering velocity, or customer experience. You are recognized as a technical leader, helping shape engineering strategy across multiple teams. You've championed adoption of new technologies, including AI, in business-relevant ways.
