GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The AS400 RPG Lead is responsible for leading a team of developers in the design, development, maintenance, and support of LSP applications on the IBM AS400 platform using RPG programming. This role requires strong technical expertise, implementing and supporting the application system on AS400 adhering to IT process improvements that support the Combined Insurance (CICA) internal business areas including, but not limited to, New Business, Billing and compensation, other duties may include transition of product knowledge to project teams, management of communication with the business users for any production issues.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead and mentor a team of AS400 RPG developers, providing technical guidance and support.
Design, develop, test, and implement new applications and enhancements to existing systems using RPG IV/ILE, CL, and DB2.
Collaborate with business analysts, project managers, and stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
Ensure code quality, performance, and security standards are met.
Conduct code reviews and enforce best practices in RPG programming.
Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve application issues in a timely manner.
Manage project timelines, deliverables, and resource allocation.
Prepare technical documentation and user guides.
Stay updated with AS400 technologies and recommend improvements.
Support migration, integration, and modernization initiatives as needed.
Desired Skills, Experience and Qualification
WORK EXPERIENCE & SKILLS
5 to 10 years of experience in AS400 development with strong expertise in RPG IV/ILE, CL, and DB2.
Proven experience in leading development teams and managing projects.
Solid understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC).
Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
Experience with modernization tools and integration with other platforms is a plus.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Ability to effectively communicate with on-shore and off-shore teams
Experience with APIs, web services, and middleware integration.
Knowledge of Agile methodologies.
Familiarity with change management and version control tools.
Experience in insurance, finance, or related industries.
Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field.
