xMatters, an Everbridge Company, is hiring a full-time, remote

Senior Software Engineer

with a strong foundation in

Java

and increasing responsibility across the

full stack

. This role is ideal for an experienced engineer who enjoys owning services end-to-end, collaborating closely with product and design partners, and making thoughtful use of modern development tools, including coding assistants and generative AI, in an intelligent and responsible way as part of day-to-day development.

You'll join a collaborative, fast-moving engineering team building highly available, cloud-based software used by organizations around the world.

What You'll Do

+ Design, develop, and maintain

highly available, cloud-native services

, with a primary focus on Java-based back-end systems + Contribute across the stack, including APIs, service integrations, and front-end or UI-adjacent work as needed
+ Collaborate with product managers and designers to

define and refine user stories and technical approaches

+ Mentor and support other engineers through collaboration and knowledge sharing
+ Own services end-to-end, from development through deployment and production operations (DevOps mindset)
+ Use modern development tooling, including

coding assistants and generative AI,

to improve productivity, while applying sound engineering judgment, code review, and security best practices

What You'll bring

+ A degree or diploma in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field + 5+ years' experience in enterprise application development with Java
+ Experience building and scaling distributed, highly available systems.
+ Experience developing applications for a cloud environment such as Google Cloud Platform or Amazon Web Services
+ Experience with relational databases such as Postgres, etc.
+ Experience with REST APIs, microservice architecture and service-to-service communication
+ Solid knowledge of unit, integration and automation testing methodologies
+ Comfort working across layers of an application and learning new technologies as needed
+ Working knowledge of frontend technologies such as JavaScript, HTML, CSS and modern frameworks such as React etc.
+ Strong understanding of software design principles, clean code and best practices

Added advantage

+ Ability to analyze and understand a novel codebase and complex system interactions with the effective use of coding assistants + Experience with Agile development methodologies such as Scrum
+ Prior work with frameworks/tools such as SpringBoot, Kafka, Cassandra, Docker, and Kubernetes
+ Performance analysis and JVM tuning skills
+ Comfortable building metrics, monitoring, and alerting for micro-services
+ Knowledge and experience working with software architecture design patterns
+ Prior experience thoughtfully incorporating

AI-assisted development tools

into established engineering workflows
