Elsevier Education "Data & Content" Technology team is developing a next generation e-learning product suite which will transform healthcare education. The first of its kind for healthcare education, we use big data, machine learning technology, analytics, and adaptive techniques to track students\xe2\x80\x99 interactions with content, assessments, and simulations while providing a highly focused, engaging, and personalized learning experience for students which in turn positively impacts patient care.

Reporting to the Education Content Management we require a talented, \xe2\x80\x98hands-on\xe2\x80\x99 Sr. Software Engineer-I to development new applications and to maintain existing systems. A successful applicant will demonstrate contributions that will ultimately be transformative to the business.

A successful candidate to spend roughly half their time close to technology, coding and developing software. This position requires close collaboration with other Education Technology squads with a focus on integrating shared components to facilitate effective communication across key platform systems. The candidate is expected to utilize the squad model to support quality feature development and product delivery. Our squads enjoy full autonomy, independently defining and delivering long and short-term goals while ensuring alignment and quality. A strong candidate will value effective communication and demonstrate a propensity to work with product partners to refine maintainable feature enhancements which meet/anticipate customer needs. Finally, the candidate must understand the importance of automation and automated testing as they work towards CI within a rapid deployment SDLC.

Preferred experience and technology requirements:

Must haves:

  • Recent career history operating as a Software Engineer III or similar to show evidence of at least 50% hands on developing web service applications
  • Client/server development experience (4+ years) across languages and projects ideally with experience in, Java, Spring boot, and SQL
  • Development experience with containerized micro-services.
  • Demonstrable experience with production products, SDLC, REST (and other API) development architecture.
  • Develops plans and procedures and establishes guidelines for overall system improvement.
  • Recommends technical strategy and direction in area(s) of expertise.
  • Leads major technical design, engineering and integration efforts.
  • Strong hands-on Agile application development experience
Nice to haves:
  • Client side software engineering background with experience in Angular or React
  • A background in Educational technology and/or healthcare and nursing
  • Infrastructure knowledge (AWS)
  • Testing frameworks and automation
