Senior Software Development Engineer: Firmware

This role has been designated as 'Edge', which means you will primarily work outside of an HPE office.

Job Family Definition:

Designs, develops, troubleshoots and debugs software programs for software enhancements and new products. Develops software including operating systems, compilers, routers, networks, utilities, databases and Internet-related tools. Determines hardware compatibility and/or influences hardware design.

Management Level Definition:

Applies developed subject matter knowledge to solve common and complex business issues within established guidelines and recommends appropriate alternatives. Works on problems of diverse complexity and scope. May act as a team or project leader providing direction to team activities and facilitates information validation and team decision making process. Exercises independent judgment within generally defined policies and practices to identify and select a solution. Ability to handle most unique situations. May seek advice in order to make decisions on complex business issues.

Responsibilities:

• Designs enhancements, updates, and programming changes for portions and subsystems of systems software, including operating systems, compliers, networking, utilities, databases, and Internet-related tools.
• Analyzes design and determines coding, programming, and integration activities required based on general objectives and knowledge of overall architecture of product or solution.
• Writes and executes complete testing plans, protocols, and documentation for assigned portion of application; identifies and debugs, and creates solutions for issues with code and integration into application architecture.
• Leads a project team of other software systems engineers and internal and outsourced development partners to develop reliable, cost effective and high quality solutions for assigned systems portion or subsystem.
• Collaborates and communicates with management, internal, and outsourced development partners regarding software systems design status, project progress, and issue resolution.
• Represents the software systems engineering team for all phases of larger and more-complex development projects. Provides guidance and mentoring to less- experienced staff members.

Education and Experience Required:

• Master's or Bachelor's Engineering degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent.
• Typically 6 to 8 years' experience.

Knowledge and Skills Required:

• Strong programming experience in C and C++ or Python
• Strong working knowledge of Linux - device drivers development, Inter-process communication, interrupt and exception handling, dynamic memory handling.
• Working knowledge of debugging tools like gdb, kdb, JTAG debuggers.
• Experience working with multi-core ARM processors or similar system controllers.
• Good working knowledge of PCIe, I2C, USB, Serial (RS232 & RS 485)
• Good knowledge of security protocols SSH, SSL, SHA, and MD5
• Working knowledge of industry standards like Redfish, PLDM, IPMI will be an added advantage.
• Work experience in OpenBMC / Yocto based environment will be an added advantage.
• Ability to work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
• Excellent communication, leadership, problem-solving, and analytical skills
• Exceptional troubleshooting and debugging capability.
• Willing to work alone with minimal supervision as well as collaboratively.
• Must be an independent, quick learner and possess strong communication skills (written and verbal).
