The Senior Resident in General Surgery plays a crucial role in providing surgical care under the supervision of faculty. The position involves active participation in patient management, surgical procedures, teaching activities, and clinical research. Senior Residents are expected to develop advanced surgical skills, mentor junior residents, and contribute to academic growth and departmental development.
Key Responsibilities:Clinical Responsibilities:
Independently assess and manage surgical patients in OPD, emergency, and inpatient settings.
Perform routine and emergency surgical procedures under supervision.
Assist faculty in complex surgeries and learn advanced operative techniques.
Manage post-operative care, monitor patient progress, and handle complications.
Participate in daily ward rounds, case discussions, and preoperative planning.
Teaching & Academic Duties:
Teach and guide junior residents, interns, and medical students during clinical rotations.
Participate in academic activities such as seminars, journal clubs, case presentations, and bedside teaching.
Assist in organizing departmental teaching programs and workshops.
Research & Publications:
Engage in clinical research, audits, and quality improvement projects.
Contribute to ongoing departmental research and initiate individual projects.
Prepare and submit case reports, research papers, or presentations for conferences or journals.
Administrative & Miscellaneous Duties:
Maintain accurate medical records and documentation for patients.
Ensure adherence to institutional protocols, patient safety, and infection control practices.
Participate in departmental meetings, mortality and morbidity reviews, and hospital audits.
Be available for on-call duties, night shifts, and emergency coverage as scheduled.
Eligibility Criteria:
Educational Qualification:
MBBS + MS/DNB in General Surgery from a recognized university/institute.
Experience:
Completion of junior residency or equivalent experience in General Surgery.
Registration:
Valid registration with State/National Medical Council (as applicable).
Qualification - MBBS, MS/MD, DNB
