Master's degree in life sciences or allied discipline. Knowledge of EMR databases and careful entry of data/reports into proprietary medical databases

ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES & JOB DESCRIPTION:



A Biobank position is available in the Sapien Biosciences Private Limited at Hyderabad

This position involves collecting samples from surgery and operation theater, entering patient data in database, integrating information and samples derived from various sources within the biobank and other relevant areas within the department and wider cancer community.

The post holder will also work closely with the OT team in sample acquisition, counselling patients to donate blood and take consent.

In this post you will provide support to the research scientists and be part of the Biobanking team. The key duties are listed below and will require some manual handling. Training by experienced staff will be provided. Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, Hindi and Regional languages.

The post will involve a routine weekly collection of samples obtained from donors for banking and for selected studies. You will work closely with the surgeons, anesthetists, and medical administrators. You will process samples to serum, plasma, cells. You will routinely liaise with a wide range of contacts related to the Biobank, including:

o Members of the Biobank Team

o Patients

o Members of the clinical teams - nursing, surgical, pathologyResearchers wishing to seek access to samples.

Responsibilities



Include but are not limited to:

Coordinate the collection and processing schedule for samples from patients at hospital sites, including working with other on-site staff to collect blood, biopsy and surgical samples.

Liaise with the nursing team in order to identify appropriate patients, carry out the informed consent process and receive blood samples from OT. This will involve recruiting patients who meet inclusion criteria.

Receive and process tissue samples in conjunction with the surgical and pathology teams. To process blood, tissue and other donor samples to generate DNA, RNA, Serum, Plasma, PBMC, ensuring checks are undertaken to ensure the identity and quality of sampleson receipt and throughout the process.

Maintain comprehensive and accurate records for sample and patient data on real time basis.

Report sample processing, storage, and quality issues to the Line Manager, completing documentation when required.

To assist in the overall curation of the laboratory database.

To collect and assist in the maintenance of a bank of clinical samples.

To work as part of a team, working co-operatively with senior and junior colleagues sharing laboratory and research resources.

To report weekly to the Line manager on scientific activities and any other issues that may influence the optimal running of the project and any other projects within the group.

Archive study materials for future reference.

Writing and reviewing SOPs for laboratory management and other studies together with the Biobanking team.

Responding to queries and requests from different end users.

Maintain complete, high quality data files.

Liaising with the clinical staff for obtaining accurate and updated information about patient diagnosis and surgeries.

Complete audits and report quality issues, completing documentation when required.

With guidance, develop and adhere to standard operating procedures for consent, storage and ethical aspects to ensure the sample resource is in compliance with the available guidelines

Liaise with a wide range of contacts related to the theme activities, including:

i) Members of the Biobank Team,

ii) Patients,

iii) Members of the clinical teams - nursing, surgical, pathology.

iv) Researchers wishing to seek access to samples
