The Quality Manager is responsible for establishing, implementing, and maintaining an effective Quality Management System (QMS) in a plastic molding and surface treatment environment. This role ensures that all molded, plated, and painted components meet customer specifications and industry standards. The candidate must have strong experience in automotive quality systems, surface finishing processes, customer audits, and team leadership.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and manage the Quality Assurance and Control functions for Plastic Injection Molding, Electroplating, and Automotive Paint Shop operations.
Ensure full compliance with IATF 16949, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and customer-specific requirements.
Oversee implementation and continuous improvement of quality systems including APQP, PPAP, FMEA, MSA, and SPC.
Drive root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) for internal rejections and customer complaints using 8D, 5-Why, Fishbone Analysis.
Lead customer and third-party audits, including VDA 6.3, and manage effective closure of non-conformities.
Establish quality standards and inspection plans for molded, plated, and painted parts, ensuring zero-defect supplies.
Interface with customers for quality-related concerns, product validation, and new project development.
Manage a team of quality engineers, inspectors, and lab technicians; provide training and performance evaluation.
Work closely with R&D, Production, Maintenance, and Supply Chain to ensure product and process quality.
Monitor KPIs such as PPM, COPQ, Customer Rejections, and drive continuous improvement using Lean/Six Sigma tools.
Ensure calibration and maintenance of quality lab instruments and equipment (CMM, spectrophotometers, etc.).
Required Skills and Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical / Polymer / Chemical / Industrial Engineering or equivalent.
10+ years of relevant experience in quality management in plastic injection molding, plating, and painting for automotive applications.
Deep knowledge of surface treatments (chrome plating, painting) and their associated quality challenges (peel-off, blisters, color mismatch, etc.).
Strong experience with IATF 16949 and automotive core tools (APQP, PPAP, FMEA, MSA, SPC).
Familiar with color matching systems, gloss meters, cross hatch adhesion testing, thickness gauges, and surface defect evaluation.
Proven track record in handling OEM/Tier-1 customer audits and certifications.
Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
Proficient in quality software, MS Office, and statistical tools (e.g., Minitab, Q-DAS).
