The Engineering team discovers, develops and evaluates new product ideas, enhancements, or strategic product extensions, and translates research discoveries into usable and marketable products. Leads, plans and tracks all phases of the product life cycle, from inception to introduction into the marketplace. Coordinates with various functions to ensure successful product development and implementation.

Whirlpool is looking for a qualified candidate for the position of

Subsystem Engineer - Analyst (Deputy Manager)

for the

Laundry Systems team

at

Pondicherry

.

This role will lead the

mechanical design, validation, and approval

of

dispensing systems, pumps, valves, hoses, and related fluid-management components

for Semi-Automatic, Fully-Automatic (Top & Front Load), and Dryer platforms.

Your responsibilities will include

Lead

mechanical design, development, and release

of components such as

detergent dispensers, inlet valves, recirculation systems, pumps, and drain systems

. Own subsystem design from

concept to production

, ensuring compliance with performance, cost, quality, and manufacturability targets. Drive

component selection, material choice, and supplier discussions

for optimal design performance and reliability. Perform

CAD modeling, design reviews, DFM/A evaluations

, and interface checks to ensure system compatibility. Approve and release 3D/2D data, BOMs, and engineering change documents per WPD and PLM standards. Create and execute

validation plans (DVPR)

for functional, endurance, and environmental testing of fluid components. Support

root cause analysis (RCA)

and implement permanent design solutions for field and quality issues. Partner with

Controls & Electronics

to ensure proper actuator and sensor integration within the fluid system. Collaborate with suppliers for

proto builds, tool reviews, and component approvals

. Drive

cost-reduction and localization initiatives

while ensuring no compromise to performance or durability. Contribute to

DFMEA reviews

and maintain updated risk assessments through concept and design validation stages. Benchmark competitor products to identify

innovation and simplification opportunities

in fluid system design.

Preferred skills and experiences

Strong knowledge of fluid system design - pumps, valves, hoses, dispensers, seals, and flow paths. Experience in plastic component design, injection molding, and assembly feasibility. Proficiency in CAD tools (Creo preferred) and PLM systems (Windchill). Understanding of fluid dynamics, pressure drop, and leak-proof design principles. Exposure to DFMEA, DVPR, and validation testing of mechanical and electromechanical components. Knowledge of supplier part approval process (PPAP) and FAI validation. Familiarity with motor-pump integration, flow calibration, and fluid noise reduction. Experience in component material selection (plastics, elastomers, stainless steel) and chemical compatibility evaluation. Awareness of energy-efficient pump and valve technologies and sustainability trends. Ability to interpret test data, perform tolerance stack-ups, and recommend design optimizations. Working knowledge of CAE tools (ANSYS / CFD / Flow Simulation) for flow and pressure analysis preferred.
