Key Responsibilities



Preparation of the Operating Theater:



Ensure the operating theater is properly prepared and equipped for scheduled surgeries, including the arrangement of surgical instruments, supplies, and sterile drapes. Confirm the availability and functionality of medical devices and equipment used in surgeries (e.g., anesthesia machines, electrocautery, surgical microscopes). Sterilize, assemble, and maintain surgical instruments according to hospital standards and protocols.

Assisting in Surgical Procedures:



Assist surgeons and medical staff during surgeries by passing instruments, handling specimens, and performing other tasks as needed. Maintain an organized and sterile field during surgery, ensuring that all tools and equipment are within reach and functioning properly. Be actively involved in patient positioning and ensuring safety protocols are followed before, during, and after surgery.

Maintenance and Inventory Management:



Regularly check the inventory of surgical supplies and ensure that all necessary equipment is in place and properly maintained. Track and manage surgical equipment, ensuring routine maintenance and servicing to avoid any malfunctions during procedures. Collaborate with suppliers to ensure adequate stock levels of medical supplies and instruments.

Infection Control and Sterility:



Adhere to infection control procedures and ensure that the operating room environment is sterile at all times. Assist in cleaning and sterilizing the surgical instruments, operating tables, and other tools post-surgery. Maintain a sterile environment in the OR during surgeries by ensuring proper sanitation and disinfection procedures are followed.

Monitoring Equipment and Supplies:



Monitor the performance and functioning of medical equipment during surgeries, and troubleshoot any technical issues that may arise. Ensure that all necessary surgical instruments, equipment, and disposables are available and functioning before, during, and after surgery.

Team Coordination:



Supervise and train junior OT technicians and nursing staff, ensuring they adhere to standards of care and operational procedures. Work closely with the surgical team, including surgeons, anesthetists, and nurses, to ensure smooth coordination during surgeries. Provide leadership in emergency situations, ensuring the team responds appropriately and efficiently.

Documentation and Reporting:



Maintain accurate records of surgical procedures, inventory logs, and equipment servicing records. Report any incidents or irregularities during surgeries to the OT Manager or appropriate authority. Contribute to post-surgical reports, ensuring proper documentation of the procedure, instruments used, and any complications.

Quality and Compliance:



Ensure compliance with hospital policies, surgical protocols, and safety regulations. Participate in regular audits of OT practices to ensure adherence to infection control and quality standards. Assist in implementing and updating best practices and hospital guidelines to improve patient safety and care.

Qualifications:



Bachelor's or Associate Degree in Operation Theater Technology, Medical Technology, or related field. Certification in OT Technology (e.g., OT Technician Certification from a recognized institution).

Experience:



Minimum of 5 years of experience as an OT Technician, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or senior role. Experience in handling advanced surgical instruments and medical equipment.

Skills and Knowledge:



Strong knowledge of surgical instruments, sterilization techniques, and infection control protocols. Proficient in the use of operating theater equipment, including anesthesia machines, electrocautery units, and surgical lights. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot equipment and supply issues in real-time. Knowledge of medical terminology and surgical procedures. Ability to remain calm under pressure and manage stressful situations effectively.

Soft Skills:



Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with medical staff and patients. Strong attention to detail, precision, and organization. Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment while maintaining quality and safety standards.
