Biostatistics and Data Sciences (BDS) is a global organization with more than 400 employees within the Human Pharma Business Unit. Working in close collaboration with other functions at Boehringer Ingelheim (BI) and external vendors we combine methodological and technical data science skills with business and scientific expertise to drive smart, timely and confident decision making at every stage of drug development, approval and access.
On our journey to transform BDS into a modern data science organization in clinical development our intent is to create a learning organization in which people develop and deploy leading-edge data science approaches and technologies to actively plan, generate and evaluate evidence that shapes informed decision-making along the value chain.
As a Senior or Principal Clinical Data Scientist you support clinical drug research and development by providing strategic planning and execution, data transformation as well as all aspects of descriptive, diagnostic, predictive and prescriptive analytics of data.

• As a Senior Clinical Data Scientist you are responsible for planning and execution of clinical projects, including all aspects of analytics of data and data transformation. In particular, this includes the provision of analytics tools and outputs. Your focus is on statistical aspects of Translational Medicine and Clinical Pharmacology in inflammation trials and projects. Your expertise covers all clinical development phases, including translational medicine trials and biomarker research projects.
• You apply established statistical methods and combine them with cutting-edge data science methods in designing, collecting and analyzing clinical, pharmacokinetic and biomarker data from trials and projects.
• In your role you contribute to evidence generation along the human pharma value chain by telling a compelling data story able to generate insights and trigger actions that make a difference to our patients.
• You collaborate closely with scientists and experts from various disciplines in clinical development.
• You enhance your business knowledge and scientific expertise in a global environment.
• With your expertise you exchange with the statistical and data science community.
• You are part of a global biostatistics and data sciences organization that covers all statistical aspects within the complete human pharma product life cycle.

Additional taks & responsibilities as Principal Clinical Data Scientist

• On indication and substance level you in addition, provide strategic direction, lead and oversee biomarker research projects and represent BDS regarding biomarker aspects.

Requirements as Senior Clinical Data Scientist

• Bachelor of Science, Master of Science or Doctoral Degree (PhD.) in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science or related field (Data Science, Natural Science, Psychology, Finance, etc)
• Sound knowledge of statistical methodology, design of clinical trials or clinical experiments, basic medical terminology and on processing clinical trial information as well as experience in pharmaceutical development
• Demonstrated hands-on experience with biomarker data and analysis
• Advanced knowledge of and hands-on experience in relevant software languages, like R and SAS
• Ability to pro-actively identify issues and solutions and to interact with internal and external bodies on routine clinical data science issues
• Interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with people, internally and externally (e.g. academic partners, CROs, scientific experts, management) as well as evidence of strong teamwork, also in global and remote context
• Oral and written communication skills to interact in interdisciplinary teams as well as the ability to explain, visualize and communicate statistical information to non-statisticians effectively
• Fluency in written and spoken English and German

Additional requirements as Principal Clinical Data Scientist

• Knowledge and experience regarding multivariate statistical modeling and prediction/ machine learning
• Broad knowledge of different types of biomarkers and related technologies/assays for measurement as well as statistical biomarker analysis strategies and biomarker guided clinical development
• Advanced project lead experience
• The level of knowledge, expertise and working experience that you can demonstrate with your application materials and during interviews will determine your job level
• Working experience might be partially compensated by broad and deep topic-specific knowledge
