PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
As Senior News Editor, you will be the Lead Editor for South Asia languages. You will be directly responsible for setting strategy for the Bengali, Sinhala, and Nepali services and play a pivotal role in shaping growth, optimisation, and innovation across the region.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:

  • Line manage the Bengali, Sinhala and Nepali editors, and develop and implement growth strategies for those services along with the service editors and with audiences, growth, optimisation and strategic planning and delivery teams.
  • Work with the Regional Director, and departmental experts, to develop growth strategies and best practices across the region.
  • Liaise with partnerships teams on launches, projects, and strategic collaborations in the entire region.
  • Be highly skilled at managing numerous and diverse senior and executive level stakeholders, often operating under tight timescales and managing competing priorities
  • Set and deliver a clear editorial strategy for production and rollout of editorial content to maximize reach and impact
  • You may be involved in developing and overseeing Open-Source Intelligence (OSINT) journalism in the region
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
  • Substantial experience of journalism and production, as well as proven editorial judgement and substantial experience of managing editorial and operational staff and facilities in a daily news environment.
  • Expert knowledge of our audience's needs, current market trends and challenges.
  • Deep knowledge of editorial output processes across the whole of the BBC, as well as that of competitors.
  • Experience of solving complex editorial and legal challenges, managing significant budgets and understanding key financial drivers.
  • Experience of managing staff across locations, having nurtured talent and be internally and/or externally recognized as a promoter of diversity and inclusion
DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED:
  • Working knowledge of one or more South Asian languages.
