Position Overview
NoPo Nanotechnologies is seeking an experienced Senior Mechatronics Engineer to lead the design, development, and implementation of advanced instrumentation systems integrated with our HiPCO Reactor and emerging nanotube-based technologies. This role demands strong technical expertise across mechanical, electrical, control, and software systems, combined with an aptitude for R&D and technology creation within a precision, ISO-compliant environment.
The ideal candidate will excel in both conceptual and hands-on work -- bridging scientific principles with practical implementation to develop novel instruments used in the synthesis, measurement, and application of carbon nanotube-based materials such as membranes, filters, and detectors.
Key Responsibilities
Research & Development
o Lead the design and prototyping of new mechatronic instruments and modules supporting HiPCO reactors and nanotube-related products.
o Translate scientific objectives into engineered solutions through detailed design, simulation, and iterative prototyping.
o Investigate, test, and optimize mechanical, electronic, and control subsystems for precision and reliability.
Technology Development
o Build and integrate multi-disciplinary systems including sensors, actuators, micro controllers, power systems, and fluid/thermal control hardware.
o Collaborate with materials scientists, chemical engineers, and system developers to design custom instrumentation and automation tools.
o Contribute to development of next-generation nanotube-based applications, ensuring mechanical-electronic compatibility and performance stability.
Process & Documentation
o Develop and follow detailed Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all design, test, and qualification activities.
o Prepare and maintain comprehensive technical documentation including design reports, specifications, assembly drawings, and test records.
o Participate in ISO 9001 quality systems, calibration procedures, and process validation practices.
Project Leadership
o Mentor junior engineers and technicians in mechatronics design and prototyping practice.
o Manage time, resources, and technical milestones to deliver functional prototypes and production-ready systems.
o Support technology transfer from R&D to manufacturing and ensure scalable, reliable design outcomes.
Compliance & Safety
o Ensure all projects adhere to ISO, IEC, and internal engineering standards and comply with laboratory safety guidelines.
o Participate in continuous improvement programs focused on quality, safety, and sustainability.
Requirements
Required Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechatronics, Electrical, Mechanical, Instrumentation, or a related field.
Experience: Minimum 4+ years of experience in multidisciplinary system design, precision instrumentation, or automation engineering.
Technical Expertise:
o Strong background in control systems, embedded programming (Python, C/C++), PLCs, and sensor integration.
o Knowledge of pneumatic, hydraulic, and thermal control systems and their implementation in scientific instrumentation.
o Hands-on experience with CAD tools (SolidWorks, Fusion 360) and circuit design software (Altium, KiCad, or equivalent).
o Familiarity with ISO-compliant engineering documentation, design traceability, and validation processes.
Preferred Skills
