We are looking for a highly skilled Senior Database SRE Manager to lead a globally distributed team that maintains and support On-Prem and Cloud database environments, manages costs and provides production support.Role Responsibilities & Key Accountabilities:

  • This is a key role that drives our strategic transformation projects such as DigiOps - Modernization Program and instrumental to Cloud Migrations for the whole Database & Big Data estate.
  • As a Manager of the SRE team you will be responsible for the continuous improvement of the operational metrics.
  • Driving day-to-day operations of the team and contributing to the development and prioritization of the Database & BigData SRE team for major initiatives
  • Establishing strong working relationships with peer infrastructure and the technology and business partners
  • Influencing architecture decisions in your team and for individual services to optimize resilience and scalability
  • Growing the organization through hiring and creating professional growth opportunities for the members of your team
  • Coordinates a team of Site Reliability Engineers on projects to ensure improvement of the availability, scalability, latency and efficiency of LSEGs services.
  • Leads by example, mentors the team and establishes credibility through quality technical execution.
  • Owns end-to-end availability and performance of key services and build automation to prevent problem recurrence.
  • Implements new / improved site reliability processes and standard methodologies, as required by Group or departmental Heads.
  • Ensures the site reliability community has the technical skills required to deliver against long-term plans.
  • Supports and develops team members by providing advice, coaching and development opportunities.
  • Manages to budget and delivers quality software development delivery.
  • Deputises at key meetings and as necessary.
  • Leads design work and planning for elements within projects, breaking them down to stories with product owners and quality leads.
  • Promotes collaboration between and within teams and communicates complex information clearly to all audiences.
Leadership responsibilities
  • Part of Foundation Services Database & BigData SRE team working with the Director of Database & BigData SRE
  • Manage the team of Database and BigData SREs (DBAs)
  • Cultivate key relationships with technology tower leads
  • Develop team skills and capabilities
  • Manage team performance reviews
Metrics
  • MTTR for services (Detection, Response & Resolution)
  • Coverage and visibility of services health checks
  • Automation of recovery and operational tasks
  • Successful/unsuccessful changes implemented
  • Problem tasks and aged tickets
  • Security and IT control compliance
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelors or Masters degree or equivalent experience in IT, or related field
  • 15+ years in IT Industry and 5+ years of demonstrated ability enabling key business priorities through the successful delivery & support of technology, and as a leader supervising a broad range of talent
  • Good experience in RDBMS and/or NoSQL technologies
  • Solid understanding and experience in microservices and cloud architectures
  • Experience in a role with operational or production responsibility
  • Deep understanding of database and BigData technologies and scaling issues
  • Hands-on coding/trouble shooting experience
  • Exceptional communication and influencing skills
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • Extensive people management experience
  • Experience of industry best-practice processes and ability to lead change
  • Experience in project or programme management
Skills
  • RDBMS (Oracle, SQLSERVER PostGreSQL etc)
  • AWS / Azure Database Skills
  • SRE / DevOps (Github, Jenkins, docker, Kubernetes, helm charts etc.)
  • BigData stack (Hadoop, Spark (py or scala), Hive, Sqoop etc)
