Job Description

Purpose of the Role
To manage and control day-to-day canteen operations in a large, unionized manufacturing plant through an outsourced vendor, ensuring uninterrupted food services, compliance with statutory and industrial safety norms, harmonious union relations, and high employee satisfaction.
Job Responsibility
1. Canteen Operations Management

  • Ensure smooth functioning of canteen operations across all shifts aligned with plant production schedules.
  • Ensure timely preparation and serving of meals without disruption during peak hours, overtime, or special production days.
  • Maintain consistent food quality, portion control, and service standards.
2. Vendor, Manpower & Union Coordination
  • Manage outsourced canteen vendor and deployed manpower in a unionized workforce environment.
  • Coordinate with vendor supervisors to ensure manpower availability, shift rosters, discipline, and productivity.
  • Act as the single point of contact between management, vendor, and union representatives for canteen-related matters.
  • Handle union-related issues such as grievances, complaints, service expectations, and operational changes with maturity and diplomacy.
  • Support HR and IR teams during discussions related to canteen operations, working conditions, and statutory obligations.
3. Industrial Safety, EHS & Statutory Compliance
  • Ensure strict adherence to industrial safety norms applicable to manufacturing plants, including PPE usage, fire safety, equipment safety, and emergency preparedness within canteen premises.
  • Coordinate with EHS team for safety inspections, audits, and mock drills.
  • Ensure compliance with Factories Act (canteen provisions), FSSAI norms, labor laws, and local statutory requirements.
  • Maintain statutory records, licenses, and audit documentation.
4. Hygiene, Quality & Food Safety
  • Implement and monitor food safety standards such as GMP, GHP, and basic HACCP practices.
  • Ensure hygiene compliance in food preparation areas, storage, utilities, dining halls, and waste disposal zones.
  • Monitor pest control, waste segregation, and environmental compliance.
5. Employee Interface & Grievance Handling
  • Address employee and union feedback regarding food quality, menu, pricing (where applicable), and service.
  • Proactively resolve issues to avoid escalation or disruption to plant operations.
  • Conduct regular meetings with union representatives and canteen committees (if applicable).
6. Cost Control, MIS & Reporting
  • Monitor consumption, wastage, inventory levels, and vendor billing accuracy.
  • Prepare MIS reports on canteen operations, safety, compliance, and employee feedback.
  • Support budgeting and cost optimization initiatives in line with company policies.

Desired Candidate Profile
  • Education Post Graduate in Human Resources
  • Relevant Experience : 10-12 years of experience in HR / ER with exposure to handling blue collared workers extensively
