The Senior Lab Technician plays a critical role in ensuring the smooth functioning of the diagnostic laboratory by performing advanced clinical tests, supervising junior staff, ensuring compliance with NABL and other quality standards, and maintaining lab equipment. The role demands accuracy, efficiency, and leadership in supporting clinical decision-making and patient care.
Key Responsibilities
Technical & Diagnostic
Perform diagnostic tests in hematology, clinical pathology, microbiology, serology, and biochemistry.
Validate and interpret results before releasing reports.
Collect, label, process, and store patient samples as per SOPs.
Maintain accurate test records and documentation.
Supervision & Training
Supervise junior technicians, assistants, and trainees.
Provide training on new equipment and safety protocols.
Ensure compliance with SOPs, biosafety, and infection control.
Quality & Compliance
Adhere to NABL, ISO 15189, ICMR, and regulatory standards.
Conduct internal audits and corrective actions.
Participate in EQAS and proficiency testing.
Equipment & Inventory
Operate, calibrate, and troubleshoot analyzers, centrifuges, and microscopes.
Schedule preventive maintenance.
Monitor stock of reagents, consumables, and chemicals.
Coordination & Reporting
Communicate with pathologists/clinicians on critical cases.
Manage data in the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
Assist in reports, audits, and accreditation documentation.
Qualifications
Required: DMLT / B.Sc. in Medical Laboratory Technology.
Preferred: M.Sc. in MLT or specialized diploma.
4-6 years' experience in a diagnostic lab (NABL lab experience preferred).
