Job Description

Position Summary:

A pure design leadership role requiring 9+ years of expertise in robotic welding fixtures and precision tooling. The candidate will lead a team of 6+ designers, serving as the primary technical interface for North American clients, with deep specialization in Inch-Pound (IPS) standards, SolidWorks mastery, and comprehensive vendor knowledge across US/Canadian markets. This is exclusively a design/CAD position without production floor responsibilities.

Roles & Responsibilities:

Team Oversight: Directly manage 6+ designers in shift operations, ensuring equitable workload distribution and fostering collaborative environment Mentorship & Development: Implement structured training programs for GD&T, welding symbols, structural analysis, and vendor component selection Quality Assurance: Establish and enforce design review protocols, error mitigation workflows, and version control procedures Cultural Stewardship: Maintain professional, bias-free team environment with emphasis on knowledge sharing and technical excellence Primary Design Interface: Conduct requirement-gathering sessions, present design concepts, and manage client feedback cycles Technical Translation: Convert client manufacturing requirements into detailed design specifications for team execution Documentation Leadership: Deliver comprehensive CAD packages including: Fully detailed manufacturing drawings (IPS standards) Vendor-sourced BOM with North American components Structural calculation summaries Ergonomic validation reports Assembly/disassembly procedures IPS Systems Expertise: Design of Jigs and Fixtures , Roblox models, and modular bases etc Structural Framing: Proficient with tubes (square/round), C-channels, beams, and custom weldments Actuation Systems: Pneumatic/hydraulic cylinder sizing, servo motor integration, gearbox selection Clamping Mechanisms: Manual/auto clamps, swing cylinders, wedge lock systems Ergonomics & Safety: Operator accessibility, load/unload sequencing, safety guarding integration

Key Design Artifacts:

SolidWorks Models: Fully parametric assemblies with configurations Manufacturing Drawings: Per ASME Y14.100, complete with all specifications Calculation Sheets: Hand calculations for forces, stresses, deflections Vendor Cut Sheets: Selected components with specifications Assembly Manuals: Visual guides for shop floor assembly

Required Experience & QualificationsMandatory Technical Experience:

9+ years fixture/tooling design. Extensive robotic welding fixture portfolio (automotive/aerospace preferred) Proven IPS system design experience for North American manufacturers Expert SolidWorks proficiency: Advanced assemblies, large assembly management, design tables, configurations Direct client management experience in design-review settings
