The Senior Field Service Engineer -E&I is responsible for leading field service activities for steam turbines in both onshore and offshore projects. The role involves supervising teams of technicians at client sites and ensuring the proper execution of work on steam turbines and related equipment (up to 50 MW). The engineer will be required to travel to plants as needed to perform erection, commissioning, maintenance, repair, and modification of turbine generators, while maintaining a high level of customer interaction and support.
Job Responsibilities
Supervise electrical erection, commissioning, troubleshooting, and maintenance activities with crews ranging from 1 to 10 persons.
Lead disassembly, inspection, repair, and reassembly of steam turbine generators and auxiliaries.
Ensure job site safety compliance and adherence to EHS programs.
Conduct site surveys and develop maintenance plans.
Prepare and submit detailed reports covering all job activities.
Lead and direct subcontractors for specific maintenance tasks.
Execute aftermarket services including retrofits, revamps, and upgrades.
Maintain local project lists, manage customer data, and support business development through market insights and customer engagement.
Key Competencies Required
Proven experience in steam turbine generator package erection and commissioning.
Hands-on experience in gearbox and generator erection, alignment, and inspection.
Strong knowledge of inspection procedures for turbines, gearboxes, generators, condensing systems, and auxiliaries.
Experience in pre-commissioning and commissioning of turbines and associated equipment.
General knowledge of electrical equipment erection including panels, cable trays, cable laying, and switchyard systems.
Demonstrated ability to manage safety programs and perform maintenance in industrial environments with inherent risks and hazards, ensuring safe work practices.
Experience in the operation and maintenance of back-pressure, extraction-cum-condensing turbines.
Strong customer engagement and relationship management skills.
Market awareness and understanding of steam turbines and aftermarket services.
Practical experience in executing aftermarket activities such as services, retrofits, footprints, and upgrades.
Skills Required
Hands-on experience with generator synchronization, protection relays, instrumentation, PLC, and DCS systems.
Ability to interpret and work with engineering drawings and technical documents.
Strong problem-solving and root cause analysis skills.
Knowledge of safety programs, EHS standards, and risk management in industrial environments.
Good communication and customer relationship management skills.
Market awareness of steam turbine aftermarket services (retrofits, revamps, upgrades, spares).
Qualification & Experience
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or a related filed.
Minimum 7-10 years of experience in a Field Service role, preferably in Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) for Steam Turbine Generators.
