To lead and manage the procurement function for raw materials, components, and services required in transformer manufacturing, ensuring cost-effectiveness, quality, and timely availability.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Procurement:
Develop and implement sourcing strategies for critical transformer materials like CRGO, copper, transformer oil, bushings, insulators, radiators, tanks, core materials, and hardware.
Identify and onboard reliable vendors/suppliers with strong quality and compliance track record.
Vendor Management:
Negotiate contracts, payment terms, and delivery schedules with suppliers.
Evaluate vendor performance based on quality, cost, and delivery.
Maintain long-term relationships with strategic suppliers.
Cost & Budget Control:
Ensure cost optimization through effective negotiations and alternate sourcing.
Monitor purchase budgets and contribute to cost-saving initiatives.
Operational Procurement:
Release purchase orders, track delivery timelines, and coordinate with production & stores for material requirements.
Ensure timely availability of raw materials and bought-out items to avoid production delays.
Compliance & Documentation:
Ensure compliance with company policies, statutory regulations, and quality standards (ISO, BIS, etc.).
Maintain accurate procurement records, purchase order files, and vendor documents.
Cross-functional Coordination:
Collaborate with Design, Production, Quality, and Finance teams for smooth execution of projects.
Support new product development (NPD) by sourcing new components/materials.
Market Intelligence:
Track market trends, raw material price fluctuations, and competitor sourcing strategies.
Explore opportunities for imports/exports and global sourcing.
Key Skills & Competencies:
Strong knowledge of transformer industry materials and components.
Expertise in strategic sourcing, vendor negotiations, and cost reduction.
Proficiency in ERP systems (SAP / Oracle / Tally or similar).
Excellent communication, analytical, and leadership skills.
Strong understanding of commercial terms, contracts, and logistics.
Qualifications & Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical / Mechanical Engineering or Supply Chain Management (preferred).
MBA/PGDM in Supply Chain or Materials Management is an advantage.
8-12 years of experience
in procurement within the transformer or heavy electrical equipment industry.
Proven track record of handling large-volume purchases and vendor development.
