Job Description

Objectives:

The Electrical Engineer is a highly skilled engineering professional who develops, maintains, supports, and develops electrical engineering designs and projects within the Engineering Team. This position is responsible for electrical designs and engineering support for the new products, sustaining, VAVE (Value Analysis Value Engineering), and quality improvement of ISC (Industrial Scientific Corporation) products! This role may serve as a Technical Lead in engineering projects related to the development of ISC products while maintaining the highest quality standards! This person is expected to work closely with various groups to fully assure a professionally designed product is released to production.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

The duties may include but are not limited to:

• Define, update and implement system level specifications and requirements
• Design electrical hardware including requirements for receiving agency approvals (UL, CSA, ATEX, MSHA, etc.)
• Develop technical design documentation
• Solve issues in new and legacy designs
• Follow, enforce, and mature engineering processes and standards
• Develop and present materials for design reviews and champion design for manufacturability, reliability, and serviceability
• Design legacy product upgrades
• Collaboratively participate in multi-functional product development teams
• Develop test plans and coordinate with quality assurance on product testing
• Solve issues in and redesign Industrial Scientific products
• Perform design updates related to component end-of-life
• Own and drive VAVE initiatives
• Lead quality investigations and improvement projects
• Collaborate with firmware engineers and other engineering collaborators
• Travel to customer locations to collect Voice of Customer and visit suppliers to go to Gemba (travel less than 10%)

Qualifications (required):

• Bachelor\'s degree in electrical engineering from an accredited university or equivalent degree/experience
• 10+ years of experience as a degreed Electrical Engineer
• Experience developing and delivering product designs from concept to product launch.
• Experience with low-level analog circuit design o Experience with digital hardware design with micro-controllers o Experience with design standard processes for high-speed, radio frequency, wireless system, and mixed-signal design for PCBs, chassis integration, interconnects, antenna integration, and material selection.
• Experience with power supply noise suppression and management, high-speed signal transmission and measurement, radio system co-existence, and solving board-level EMI/EMC issues.
• Experience with high-frequency and wireless system measurement tools including Vector Network Analyzers, Spectrum Analyzers, Vector Signal Generators, Dielectric Material Analyzers, Anechoic Chambers, Over-the-Air measurement systems, and tissue-equivalent phantoms.
• Understanding of high-frequency simulation tools, for example ANSYS Electronics Desktop environment (e.g., HFSS, Circuit, Q3D, etc.) and other mixed-signal simulation tools (e.g., LTSpice, etc.).
• Experience working with battery operated low-power designs.
• Proven Experience managing work of remote teams for new product and product life cycle maintenance.
• Able to work independently or in team environments
• Able to commit to and work under deadlines
• Demonstrated understanding of Stage-Gate and Agile development processes
• Effective written and verbal communication skills
• Delegating responsibilities to the technical staff
• Strong leadership ability
• Proficiency in basic computer software such as MS Office Suite

Qualifications (preferred):

• Master\'s degree in electrical engineering from an accredited university or equivalent degree/experience
• Experience with system development and module integration including oversight of product certification pre-compliance testing
• Strong experience using solder equipment and mechanical prototyping tools
• Knowledge of designing products for Intrinsically Safe/ Hazardous Environments
• Experience developing or analyzing battery technologies (Li-Ion, etc.) for integration into portable product designs.
• Some working knowledge of wireless communication protocols (BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy), Wi-Fi, Cellular, etc.)
• Demonstrated understanding of safety-critical embedded system design
• Proficiency in using Windchill PLM (Product Lifecycle Management), Oracle EBS, and JIRA
• Embedded programming
• RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) and REACH compliance experience
• Experience with Altium, or similar electronics design software
