Growing together.We are seeking a highly experienced and visionary Senior Director of Engineering to lead our software development and solution support teams at Optum Insight - Payer Engineering. This executive role requires a strategic thinker with a solid technical background, exemplary leadership skills, and a passion for driving innovation in the Payment Integrity and Risk & Quality portfolio of solutions. The Senior Director of Software Engineering will be responsible for overseeing the entire software development lifecycle, ensuring the delivery of high-quality software products. This role requires a strategic thinker with a solid technical background and excellent leadership skills. The candidate must have a proven track record of managing large, diverse teams and driving innovation within the organization.Primary Responsibilities:

  • Developing and implementing the software engineering strategy in alignment with the company's overall goals
  • Leading and mentoring the engineering team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation
  • Ensuring the timely delivery of high-quality software products, meeting both customer and business requirements
  • Collaborating with other departments to define and prioritize product features and enhancements
  • Staying current with industry trends and emerging technologies and incorporating them into the company's software development practices
  • Advocates and actively contributes to development of a learning culture and is a role model for continuous learning
  • Plays the role of coach/mentor/teacher and role model to inspire and engage others in continuous learning
  • Drives operational accountability across dependent partners in order to deliver excellence across peers and peer platforms
  • Explains complex relationships and trade-offs in terms that meet the needs of the affected parties
  • Actively works to reduce dependencies across the delivery and operational lifecycle
  • Delegates strategic decision-making authority to others. Keeps informed of issues/results and intervenes by exception
  • Encourages and supports risk taking to create a results-oriented culture
  • Builds an empowering team (often global) of influencers, contributors and direct managers
  • Sponsors a culture of change that other leaders adopt and their directs lead and implement
  • Understands trends in the industry and applies those trends where applicable
  • Helps promote a culture that naturally instills continuous improvement and transformation
  • Comply with the terms and conditions of the employment contract, company policies and procedures, and any and all directives (such as, but not limited to, transfer and/or re-assignment to different work locations, change in teams and/or work shifts, policies in regards to flexibility of work benefits and/or work environment, alternative work arrangements, and other decisions that may arise due to the changing business environment). Required Qualifications:
  • Graduate degree or equivalent experience
  • 10+ years of experience leading product development with success in meeting budgets and timelines for a division or operating unit for a healthcare or technology business
  • 4+ years serving in a leadership/Director role (where you led through other leaders)
  • Experience as a strategy consultant and/or product officer of a large & complex software product suite
  • Experience leveraging design-thinking methodology and empathy interviewing practices
  • Experience leveraging shared technology services in a global organization
  • Broad technology experience, including complex systems integration expertise
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in the product development process
  • Demonstrated understanding of corporate financial disciplines - budgeting, reporting and P&L
  • Track record of delivering scalable and highly-available systems using Agile methods and a DevOps model
  • History of delivering business results in a matrix environment
  • Proven sound judgment and discretion in decision making
  • Proven organizational proficiencies to oversee multiple initiatives simultaneously and work in a fast-paced environment under limited supervision with excellent follow-through on detailed tasks
  • Proven problem solving skills with proven ability to incorporate process improvement tools
  • Proven ability to work independently and in a cross-functional team environment
  • Proven consultative approach to building consensus
