Senior Desk Editor, Bangalore Desk

The Reuters Bangalore bureau, the largest Reuters news operation in the world, has set a global benchmark for producing real-time company and markets news at speed. The Bangalore Desk is an integral part of this operation, editing every story produced in the bureau and providing hands-on editorial guidance to hundreds of reporters who are covering companies from Sydney to San Francisco. The team of editors, which works 24x5, is also integrated with the Global News Desk, editing stories from other locations as well.

Reuters News is looking for a Senior Desk Editor to help run the fast-paced editing desk in the Bangalore bureau.

About You:

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have a strong background in news editing, with an eye for detail and the ability to simplify and explain often-complex material. They will be well versed in financial news and comfortable editing stories across financial markets and company news;

  • Adept at making split-second editing decisions on fast-moving news, while also masterfully crafting longer stories that appeal both to professionals who rely on Reuters News to help make investment decisions and general readers who access news through Reuters.com and media outlets worldwide;

  • Be skilled at giving constructive and real-time feedback as they safeguard Reuters’ high editorial and ethical standards, adhering to style, guidelines and policies.

And as a Senior Desk Editor, you will:

  • Edit, rewrite and reshape stories with dynamic prose and strong news judgment; ensure stories have context and actionable content for clients; produce sharp headlines, punchy leads and overall lively writing

  • Run shifts

  • Ensure that stories meet Reuters’ standards for accuracy, speed, balance and clarity.

  • Enforce Reuters’ high editorial and ethical standards, adhering to style, guidelines and policies laid out by the Reuters Trust Principles and the Reuters Handbook for Journalists

Experience & Behaviours:

To apply for this role, you will likely have:

  • 5-10 years of experience editing business news. Reporters with proven writing and team leading skills will also be considered.

  • An ability to multi-task and deliver under pressure

  • Strong communication skills along with a Diverse & Inclusive mindset.
