The Senior Design Engineer - NPD is responsible for designing and developing high-precision components, tooling, and assemblies as part of the New Product Development process. The role involves converting customer requirements into manufacturable designs, supporting prototyping and validation activities, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure smooth product realization.
This position reports to the Design Manager / Head of Engineering.
Develop 2D/3D CAD models, detailed drawings, and engineering documents.
Translate customer requirements, sketches, and concepts into feasible designs.
Apply GD&T, tolerances, and engineering standards (ISO/AS).
Conduct design reviews and ensure manufacturability (DFM/DFA).
2. New Product Development (NPD) Execution
Support end-to-end NPD activities: concept ? design ? prototype ? testing ? release.
Prepare design calculations, material selection, and engineering analysis.
Participate in prototyping, validation, and design improvement activities.
3. CAD/CAE & Technical Analysis
Use CAD/CAE tools (SolidWorks, CATIA, NX, AutoCAD, etc.) for modeling and simulations.
Conduct basic stress/thermal/fitment analysis to validate design integrity.
Maintain revision control and update engineering change documents.
4. Cross-Functional Coordination
Work with Production, Quality, and Procurement teams during product development.
Provide technical inputs during machining, assembly, and testing stages.
Support Sales/Marketing with drawings, specifications, and customer clarifications.
5. Continuous Improvement
Identify opportunities for design optimization and cost reduction.
Implement value engineering, material optimization, and process improvement.
Stay updated on new design tools, materials, and manufacturing technologies.
6. Documentation & Compliance
Prepare and maintain engineering documentation, drawings, and BOMs.
Ensure compliance with ISO, AS9100, and customer-specific requirements.
Support internal and customer audits with required design records.
Qualifications & ExperienceEducation
Bachelor's degree (BE/BTech) or Diploma with strong experience in Mechanical / Production Engineering.
Experience
5-10 years of experience in product design or precision engineering.
Hands-on experience in NPD, tooling, machining components, or aerospace/medical/industrial designs.
Technical Skills
Proficiency in CAD tools: SolidWorks / CATIA / NX / AutoCAD.
Strong knowledge of GD&T, tolerances, machining processes.
Basic CAE knowledge (FEA, stress analysis).
Knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes, and engineering standards.
Soft Skills
