Job Summary:
The
Senior Design Engineer
will be responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing mechanical components and assemblies for packaging machinery. The role demands strong 3D modeling skills, attention to detail in technical drawings, and the ability to collaborate effectively with production, R&D, and procurement teams to ensure accurate and efficient design execution.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Product Design & Development
Create and model
2D and 3D components, sub-assemblies, and full machine assemblies
using SolidWorks.
Develop
innovative and practical design solutions
that meet functional, performance, and cost requirements.
Ensure all designs adhere to industry standards, safety norms, and company guidelines.
2. Technical Drawings & Detailing
Prepare detailed
manufacturing and assembly drawings
, incorporating correct dimensions, tolerances, materials, and finishes.
Release technical drawings for production with complete clarity to minimize rework.
Maintain drawing accuracy and consistency across design versions.
3. Design Documentation & BOM Management
Create, maintain, and update
Bills of Materials (BOMs)
for all assemblies and components.
Ensure all design data and documentation are properly stored and version-controlled.
Support procurement and production teams with relevant design documentation.
4. Design Analysis & Validation
Perform basic
design validation, fitment checks, interference detection, and motion studies
using SolidWorks tools.
Participate in design reviews to ensure manufacturability, assembly ease, and cost-effectiveness.
Incorporate feedback from production and field teams into future design improvements.
5. Revision Control & Coordination
Manage and control
design revisions
in coordination with the production and quality teams.
Implement engineering change notes (ECN) and maintain updated design versions in the system.
Collaborate closely with
cross-functional teams
(production, R&D, service, purchase) to resolve design or assembly issues.
6. Continuous Improvement & Support
Participate in
value engineering, cost reduction, and design optimization
initiatives.
Support in
prototype development, testing, and troubleshooting
during the trial and commissioning phase.
Stay updated with new technologies and software tools relevant to mechanical design.
Key Skills & Competencies:
Proficient in SolidWorks (Part, Assembly, Drawing, Sheet Metal, Weldment modules)
Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, manufacturing processes, and GD&T.
Knowledge of materials used in machine design (metals, polymers, etc.).
Attention to detail, analytical mindset, and problem-solving ability.
Good communication and teamwork skills.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Preferred Background:
Candidates with prior experience in
packaging machinery

special purpose machines (SPM)
, or
automation equipment
will be given preference.
Exposure to
pneumatics, conveyors, or motion systems
will be an added advantage.
