The Senior Design Engineer will be responsible for
complete design engineering and cost estimation
of EOT cranes and material-handling solutions. The role includes preparing detailed designs, conducting structural and mechanical calculations, estimating project costs, preparing techno-commercial proposals, and supporting the sales and production teams throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities1. Design & Engineering
Prepare
3D models, GA drawings, fabrication drawings, and Bill of Materials (BOM)
for EOT cranes, hoists, trolleys, and related components.
Perform
structural and mechanical calculations
for crane girders, end carriages, hoist mechanisms, wire rope selection, and critical load-bearing components.
Design and validate mechanical assemblies and ensure compliance with
IS:3177, IS:807, FEM, CMAA
, and other applicable standards.
Select appropriate mechanical/electrical components: motors, gearboxes, brakes, rope, bearings, rails, couplings, etc.
2. Estimation & Costing
Prepare
detailed cost estimates
for EOT cranes, gantry cranes, jib cranes, and hoists.
Evaluate
material, fabrication, machining, bought-out components, electrical items, and overhead
cost inputs.
Develop
technical-commercial offers, cost sheets, and project budgets
.
Analyze drawings, technical specifications, customer data sheets, and tender documents for accurate estimation.
Coordinate with purchase, vendors, and stores to update cost databases and BOM pricing.
3. Sales & Proposal Support
Provide
technical support to sales
for client inquiries, RFQs, tenders, and design clarifications.
Attend technical meetings with clients for
product configuration, feasibility, and scope finalization
.
Ensure that offers meet both technical requirements and competitive pricing strategy.
4. Project Execution Support
Coordinate with
production, quality, and erection teams
for resolving design/technical issues during manufacturing and commissioning.
Review and approve engineering documents and drawings before release.
Assist in preparing QAP, design reports, and load test documents.
5. Documentation & Compliance
Maintain revision control and ensure documentation accuracy.
Ensure designs comply with safety, quality, and statutory guidelines.
Implement design improvements to reduce cost and enhance performance.
Required Skills & Competencies
Strong knowledge of
EOT crane design, structural engineering, hoist mechanisms, and fabrication processes
.
Hands-on experience in
estimation, costing, and preparation of techno-commercial offers
for cranes.
Proficiency in
AutoCAD
, and working knowledge of
SolidWorks/Inventor, STAAD Pro, or ANSYS
.
Understanding of
electrical components and crane control systems
(VFD, panels, safety devices).
Excellent communication, cost-analysis, and cross-functional collaboration abilities.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Qualifications
B.E./B. Tech in Mechanical Engineering
or equivalent.
5-8 years of experience in
EOT crane design and estimation
in a manufacturing environment.
