What you will be doing...
We are seeking a seasoned senior legal professional to serve as the General Counsel for our India operations. You will be responsible for advising the Board of Directors and India Senior Management on all legal matters, including business transactions, HR and labour relations, real estate, ethics, compliance, and mergers & acquisitions.
This role requires a hands-on leader capable of managing complex regulatory environments, litigation strategies, and corporate governance with minimal reliance on external counsel.
Key Responsibilities
Corporate Governance & Board Advisory

  • Serve as the primary legal advisor to the Board of Directors and Company Secretary for VDSI and VCIPL, ensuring strict adherence to the Companies Act 2013.
  • Manage Board meetings, corporate filings, and related governance matters.
  • Participate in the Compliance Council and provide legal guidance to Heads of Business and Support Groups.
Litigation & Dispute Management
  • Direct litigation strategies in consultation with internal stakeholders, aiming to resolve disputes in the best interest of the company.
  • Personally conduct and manage litigation matters in judicial forums to minimize external legal spend.
  • Handle legal notices from former employees or third parties in-house.
Labour & Employment Law
  • Provide expert advisory on labour law compliance, conducting interactions with labour and statutory authorities, including managing inspections.
  • Oversee complex workforce changes, including transfers, layoffs, and separations, ensuring zero adverse impact to the business.
  • Manage Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) filings and internal disciplinary proceedings.
Regulatory Compliance & Ethics
  • Act as the International Ethics Advisor (IEA) for the region, promoting integrity and handling investigations into code of conduct breaches.
  • Oversee compliance for Customs, STPI, and MSME regulations.
  • Ensure full compliance with Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) norms and guide the CSR Committee on statutory perspectives.
Commercial & Strategic Support
  • Draft, review, and finalize real estate contracts and facility-related documents.
  • Support the Sourcing team by strategizing negotiations and providing legal inputs on vendor contracts.
  • Manage legal aspects of M&A integration and entity amalgamation.
What we are looking for...
You will need to have:
  • Bachelor's degree or Master's degree in law from a recognized university.
  • Six or more years of work experience.
  • Proven experience in a senior legal role (General Counsel or equivalent) within a Global Capability Center (GCC) or multinational corporation.
  • Regulatory Expertise: Deep knowledge of Indian corporate law, including the Companies Act 2013, Labour Codes, DoT regulations, and STPI/Customs norms.
  • Crisis Management: Demonstrated ability to handle crisis situations (e.g., regulatory summons, facility accidents, or pandemic-response compliance) with deftness and zero adverse implications.
  • Operational Excellence: A track record of maintaining statutory compliance with zero penalties and successfully managing external audits.
Even better if you have one or more of the following:
  • Ability to work closely with US-based legal teams (Labour, Ethics, Privacy) and communicate effectively with the Board of Directors.
  • Strong communication with ability to handle matters in multiple Indian languages.
