The Commercial IT - Application Engineering Lead, Data Management Frameworks within the Information Management Center of Excellence (IM COE) will lead at team that that is responsible for the design and development of the data management platforms used within Commercial IT. This role is a hands-on technical position that must be capable of leading a team (3-5 members), engaging with the platform owner & data engineering teams to understand emerging needs of the platform, and be capable of identifying and delivering production quality outcomes.

The successful candidate for this position will have demonstrated experience delivering enterprise delivery solutions in the data management focus area. The current frameworks are based on AWS services driven by python code and a Databricks platform. This role will also be expected to identify and share opportunities to improve the existing platforms while also leading the introduction of emerging technologies into the ecosystem. Key expectations of this position include:
Propose and deliver prioritized improvements to the existing environment.

Execute proof-of-concept initiatives to gain support for the feasibility of previously unproven ideas.

Work closely with Enterprise Architecture team to contribute to platform roadmap for coming years.

Collaborate with the Product Owner and System Owner of the platform to ensure shared view of priorities and future direction of the platform.

Extend the current collaborative culture of this team valuing creativity, innovation, and high quality production outcomes to meet the needs of our customers.

Key to success will be balancing the day-to-day requirement to deliver solutions using approved architecture with the passion to drive continuous improvement through identification and influencing the broader team toward new ideas and approaches.

Required technical skills:
Experience working in a fully CI/CD managed environment. Tools such as git, Jenkins, Bitbucket, Code Commit, Bamboo or similar.

Demonstrated Python development experience especially leveraging python to automate AWS data management capabilities

AWS EMR, EC2, S3, Redshift, Lamda, and more

Data Management partitioning strategies in S3, data ingestion approaches, file based storage including parquet, Spark / Pyspark, tools such as Hudi and others.

Data orchestration hands on experience with an orchestration capability is critical. Airflow is the preferred tool, but other similar will be considered.

Experience with at least one additional data platform such as Databricks, Snowflake, or other similar capabilities.

Desired skills:
Data science tools Sagemaker, R-Studio, or similar

API development

Snaplogic and Informatica

Experience working in Agile / Sprint based global teams

The role will be based in the GTC.

Typical Accountabilities
Partner with IM COE engineers, platform product owner, project manager, enterprise architect, and data engineers to create solutions that are aligned to AstraZeneca architecture standards and principles, leverage common solutions and services, and meet the financial targets (cost and benefits).
Guide day-to-day activities of the team focused on delivering industry leading data management platform.
Build a culture of innovation while focusing on highest quality outcomes.
Develop and document the Solution Blueprints for assigned projects & ensure alignment of project technical delivery to the Solution Blueprint.
Ensure solutions consider business outcomes, technical soundness, security requirements, data privacy requirements, and fiduciary responsibility.
Participate as a hands-on member of project scrum teams.
Create technical artifacts including solution designs, security assessments, and code to meet the desired outcomes.
Engage with the application maintenance team to assess opportunities to improve operational efficiency and reduce overall cost of of the environment.
Work with the DevOps team to ensure that all release management processes are followed.
This role will work primarily in local time zone; however, engagement with teams spead globally will periodically require flexibility to work adjusted hours to maximize overlap with teams in other locations.

Education, Qualifications, and Experience

Essential
Relevant technical degree or equivalent

Proven development/design experience

Experience developing innovative solutions, blueprints, and standards for solution design.

Experience working in an agile team with resources working in different timezones.

Experience as a technical lead driving a collaborative culture while at the same time ensuring outcomes are of the highest quality.

Continuous Improvement / Continuous Development (CI/CD) experience to drive and reinforce DevOps into the team.
