AI Engineering is seeking a self-starting engineer who thrives on creating new products within an iterative and fast-paced environment. In this role, you\'ll bring our AI models to AstraZeneca users worldwide via cloud deployment. Our users, scientific stakeholders positioned at the cutting intersection of science and technology, drive the acceleration of our therapy pipeline. Direct engagement with stakeholders and the engineering team will empower you to develop highly sought-after features. Collaborating closely with the research teams behind the core models, you\'ll contribute to continuous enhancements. You\'ll play a pivotal role in advancing these technologies and scaling applications for production. AI engineering has several teams working on projects from constructing and analyzing disease knowledge graphs, to automating the detection and tracking of lesions in CT scans. Comprising diverse skill sets including data scientists, machine learning engineers, bioinformaticians, and experts in graph, deep learning and natural language processing, AI engineering is poised to revolutionize our capacity to kelp scientists make key decisions in the R&D pipeline. This transformation will enhance our understanding of oncology, respiratory and cardiovascular diseases, as well as targets and drug responses. We\'re on the lookout for an entrepreneurial Front End Developer with a penchant for web app design and a knack for shaping our product\'s visual identity. Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead end-to-end development of user-centric product experiences
  • Analyze user and engineering requirements, conceiving solutions to address challenges
  • Collaborate with internal teams, including research, engineering, design, and product, to pioneer forward-looking products
  • Optimize application performance for both speed and scalability
In close collaboration with scientists, we\'re propelling drug development, tailoring treatments for patients, and conducting safer clinical trials. Our integration of knowledge from biomedical literature, unstructured radiology and pathology data, genomics, screening, and chemistry empowers us to:
  • Discover novel drug targets
  • Assess drugs efficacy
  • Identify patterns defining distinct patient groups and biomarkers
  • Understand drug mechanisms of action and safety
  • Build recommendation systems that bolster decision-making in drug programs
  • Automate radiologist and pathologist annotation workflows
  • Build predictive and prognostic models
As a member of our team, you\'ll conceive and construct innovative web applications and data visualizations. These tools aid AstraZeneca\'s scientists in making pivotal decisions. You\'ll design efficient, reusable APIs and front-end systems that drive intricate web applications. Collaborating with Data Scientists, Software Engineers, and Product Managers across AstraZeneca, you\'ll contribute to the creation of compelling user-facing products. What you\xe2\x80\x99ll need:
  • 3+ years experience in Front-end/full-stack development roles
  • Proficiency with React, and/or other similar frontend technologies
  • JavaScript experience, including concepts like asynchronous programming, closures, types.
  • Proficiency with backend languages such as Node and Python.
  • Can write Docker files to containerise apps and workflows
  • SWE interpersonal skills, such as discussing technical ideas effectively with colleagues, e.g. through whiteboard, design docs, presentations, etc. in a highly cooperative environment
  • Profiling software using appropriate tools and techniques to find performance issues & bottlenecks.
  • Interest in AI and basic knowledge of AI algorithms (direct experience not required).
  • Familiarity with large system software design and development.
  • Independent, Creative, collaborative, & product focused
  • Experience coding as part of a team (including participating in PR reviews, establishing unit testing, linting and performance frameworks within CI/CD)
  • HTML/CSS experience, including concepts like layout, specificity, cross browser compatibility, and accessibility
  • Have contributed to APIs design
Bonus points if:
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes
  • Experience in iterating over designs using prototyping tools such as Figma or Sketch.
  • Coded a significant project before with either React, Mithril.js, Vue.js or other front end libraries for writing reusable components
  • You have worked on your own as the solo front-end developer in a team.
  • You have experience iterating over designs with clients or users
  • You use redux or other libraries for state management
  • You have experience using typescript
  • Able to build custom UI to visualize model embeddings, custom notebook JS plugin and custom UI to extend OHIF/DICOM viewer
  • You have created data visualizations (D3.js, Vega, plotly.js)
  • Experience in WebGL, D3, Matplotlib/dash/any other Python visualization framework
  • network visualization libraries (sigma.js, linkurious.js, cytoscape.js)
  • You have designed or used graphQL APIs in your projects.
  • You have knowledge of the biological or drug discovery domain.
