Job Description

The Senior Compliance Officer - Recruitment will be responsible for ensuring that all recruitment activities within the UK adhere to relevant UK employment laws, regulations, industry standards, and internal policies. This role involves developing and implementing compliance frameworks, providing expert guidance, conducting audits, and fostering a culture of compliance within the recruitment function. The Senior Compliance Officer will also play a key role in managing relationships with relevant regulatory bodies and ensuring the company's recruitment practices are legally sound and ethically responsible.

Key Responsibilities:



Develop and Implement Recruitment Compliance Frameworks:

Design, implement, and maintain policies, procedures, and guidelines related to recruitment compliance in the UK, including areas such as anti-discrimination, right to work checks, data protection (GDPR), agency worker regulations, and other relevant employment legislation.

Provide Expert Advice and Guidance:

Serve as the subject matter expert on UK recruitment compliance, providing guidance and support to the recruitment team, hiring managers, and other stakeholders on legal and regulatory requirements.

Conduct Compliance Audits and Risk Assessments:

Regularly audit recruitment processes and practices to identify potential compliance risks and ensure adherence to regulations and internal policies. Develop and implement action plans to mitigate identified risks.

Stay Updated on Regulatory Changes:

Continuously monitor changes in UK employment law and recruitment regulations, assessing the impact on the company's recruitment activities and updating policies and procedures accordingly.

Develop and Deliver Training Programs:

Create and deliver training programs for the recruitment team and hiring managers on relevant compliance topics to ensure a high level of awareness and understanding.

Manage Relationships with Regulatory Bodies:

Act as a point of contact for relevant UK regulatory bodies (e.g., Home Office, ICO) on recruitment-related compliance matters.

Investigate Compliance Breaches:

Investigate any reported or suspected breaches of recruitment compliance, working with relevant stakeholders to resolve issues and implement preventative measures.

Develop and Maintain Compliance Documentation:

Ensure all recruitment-related compliance documentation is accurate, up-to-date, and readily accessible.

Implement and Monitor Right to Work Checks:

Oversee the processes for conducting thorough and compliant right to work checks for all new hires in the UK.

Ensure GDPR Compliance in Recruitment:

Implement and monitor procedures to ensure the recruitment process adheres to GDPR requirements regarding the collection, storage, and processing of candidate data.

Support Internal and External Audits:

Assist with internal and external audits related to recruitment compliance, providing necessary information and documentation.

Prepare Compliance Reports:

Prepare regular reports on the status of recruitment compliance for senior management.

Manage Agency Worker Regulations:

Ensure compliance with the Agency Workers Regulations (AWR) and related legislation.

Qualifications and Experience:



Bachelor's degree in Law, Human Resources, or a related field. A relevant professional qualification in compliance (e.g., CIPD) is highly desirable. Proven experience (typically 5+ years) in a compliance role, with a specific focus on recruitment compliance within the UK. In-depth knowledge of UK employment law and recruitment regulations, including but not limited to the Equality Act, Immigration Act, GDPR, and Agency Workers Regulations. Strong understanding of best practices in recruitment and talent acquisition. Experience in developing and implementing compliance policies and procedures. Proven ability to conduct compliance audits and risk assessments. Excellent research, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with stakeholders at all levels. High level of integrity and ethical standards. Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Proficiency in using HRIS and other relevant software.
