The Role
We are seeking a highly motivated B2B SaaS Backend Engineer with startup experience, specializing in the MERN (MongoDB, Express.js, React.js, Node.js) stack. In addition to expertise in the MERN stack, the ideal candidate should have experience working with cloud-based infrastructure, preferably AWS services, and a strong ability to develop highly scalable and secure systems. Familiarity with Agile methodologies is also crucial as you will be working in an Agile development environment.
As a Backend Software Engineer, you will play a vital role in the design, development, and maintenance of the back-end components of our B2B SaaS product. You will work closely with a team of experienced engineers, product managers, and designers to deliver high-quality software solutions that meet our customers' needs. The Job
As a Backend Engineer, you will be responsible for:

• Collaborating with the development team, product managers, and designers to understand business requirements and contribute to technical specifications and scalable software solutions.
• Designing, developing, testing, and deploying backend components of web applications using Node.js, Express.js, and other MERN stack technologies.
• Building APIs that ensure seamless data flow and system interoperability with frontend systems.
• Optimizing backend code for performance, reliability, and security following best practices.
• Assisting in the design and maintenance of cloud-based infrastructure, preferably AWS, ensuring scalability and disaster recovery readiness.
• Participating actively in Agile development practices, including sprint planning, stand-ups, retrospectives, and story refinements.
• Engaging in code reviews, offering and accepting constructive feedback to uphold high coding standards.
• Keeping up-to-date with industry trends and emerging backend technologies and evaluating their potential for product improvement.
• Contributing to continuous process improvement initiatives within the engineering team.
• Supporting smooth product launches and collaborating cross-functionally to resolve technical challenges swiftly.

• You have a Bachelors degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
• You have 3+ years of hands-on backend software product development experience, preferably within product companies.
• You possess strong computer science fundamentals and software coding craftsmanship.
• You are highly proficient in backend development using Node.js and Express.js, and have exposure to Ruby on Rails (nice to have).
• You are familiar with frontend basics like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, enhancing your collaboration with frontend teams.
• You have experience working with MongoDB or other NoSQL databases and understand relational databases like MySQL/Postgres.
• You bring exposure to cloud platforms, preferably AWS, and a keen desire to build scalable, secure cloud-based systems.
• You are comfortable with version control (Git) and CI/CD pipelines for continuous integration and deployment.
• You thrive in Agile development environments and bring a strong sense of end-to-end product ownership.
• You demonstrate strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a passion for writing clean, efficient, and maintainable code.
• You are undaunted by ambiguity and excited to solve complex problems in a fast-paced startup setting.
• Prior experience building or supporting B2B SaaS products is highly valued.
• You possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to influence and collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders.
