This is more than an engineering role; it's an opportunity to be the chief architect of our aircraft's entire avionics suite. We are looking for a seasoned leader to take complete ownership of the avionics system--from selecting the first sensor to certifying the final integrated cockpit. You will lead a talented team, make critical design decisions, and build the labs that will bring our aircraft's nervous system to life. If you have a deep passion for avionics and a proven history of integrating complex aircraft systems, we invite you to lead this charge.
About The ePlane Company
The ePlane Company is at the forefront of India's urban air mobility revolution. Incubated at IIT Madras, we are a deep-tech startup dedicated to designing and building the world's most compact electric flying taxi. Our mission is to make door-to-door flying a reality, drastically reducing commute times and decongesting our cities for a cleaner, greener future. We're a passionate team of engineers, designers, and visionaries working on cutting-edge technology, and we're looking for brilliant minds to help us take flight.
Roles and Responsibilities
As the Senior Avionics Engineer and Team Lead, you will be the driving force behind the development, integration, and certification of our avionics system. You will:
Lead the Avionics Team:
Mentor, guide, and manage a team of avionics engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and collaborative problem-solving.
Architect the System:
Define the end-to-end avionics architecture along with the other, ensuring a seamless and robust integration of all subsystems.
Drive Component Selection:
Lead the trade studies and selection of all major avionics components, including flight displays,
Communication/Navigation/Surveillance (CNS)
equipment, flight data recorders, and cabin systems.
Champion Integration:
Plan and oversee the physical and logical integration of the avionics suite with other critical aircraft systems, particularly flight controls and the high-voltage powertrain.
Establish Test Infrastructure:
Design, set up, and manage the System Integration Labs (
SIL
), Hardware-in-the-Loop Test Stations (
HITS
), and other benches required for rigorous verification and validation.
Oversee Certification:
Develop the certification strategy for the avionics system, generating the necessary documentation and evidence to demonstrate compliance.
Required Qualifications (Must-Haves)
Experience:
10+ years
of direct, hands-on experience in the development and integration of avionics systems for certified aircraft.
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electronics, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
Proven Leadership:
Demonstrable experience leading engineering projects or mentoring junior engineers.
Hands-on Suite Integration:
Proven, practical experience taking a full avionics suite from component selection through to a fully integrated and tested system on an "iron bird,"
HITS
, or aircraft.
Deep Systems Knowledge:
Expert-level understanding and practical experience with:
Integrated flight decks (e.g., Garmin G1000/G3000, Honeywell Primus Apex).
Flight Management Systems (FMS)
and
cockpit display page modeling
.
Warning systems like
Ground Proximity Warning Systems (GPWS/TAWS)
.
CNS Equipment:
COM/NAV radios, transponders (Mode S, ADS-B), GPS/GNSS receivers, and various
datalinks (e.g., C2, ACARS)
.
