The role focuses on inventory control, regulatory compliance, patient safety, SOP adherence, and risk mitigation. This position plays a critical role in strengthening pharmacy governance and supporting accreditation and regulatory readiness.
Key Responsibilities
Inventory & Stock Audit
Conduct physical stock verification and reconcile with system records
Monitor expiry and near-expiry drugs; ensure FIFO/FEFO compliance
Audit high-value and controlled drugs (Schedule H, H1, X, NDPS)
Review inward/outward stock movement between central and satellite pharmacies
Verify segregation of expired, returned, and quarantined stock
Regulatory & Compliance
Ensure valid drug licenses and pharmacist registrations
Monitor compliance with Drugs & Cosmetics Act and NDPS regulations
Verify dispensing against valid prescriptions only
Ensure correct labeling, storage, and documentation
Operational Audits
Audit dispensing processes across OPD, IPD, Emergency, OT, and wards
Review prescription validation, dose checks, and documentation
Audit handling of returns, credits, and restricted medicines
Monitor pharmacist staffing ratios and service standards
Storage & Safety
Review cold chain and temperature monitoring logs
Inspect storage conditions, cleanliness, pest control, and fire safety
Ensure safe handling of hazardous and high-risk medications
Documentation & Accreditation
Audit drug registers, controlled substance logs, and audit trails
Review equipment calibration and maintenance records
Support NABH/JCI documentation and external inspections
Risk Management & Reporting
Identify operational, compliance, and safety risks
Recommend and follow up on Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA)
Prepare detailed audit reports and present findings to leadership
Coordinate with Pharmacy, Quality, Finance, IT, Procurement, and HR
Required Skills
Strong understanding of hospital pharmacy operations
In-depth knowledge of NDPS, Drugs & Cosmetics Act, NABH/JCI standards
Experience auditing inventory and controlled substances
Excellent analytical, documentation, and reporting skills
High integrity, attention to detail, and communication ability
Qualifications & Experience
B.Pharm / M.Pharm / Pharm.D
(Mandatory)
Certification in Healthcare Quality or Hospital Administration (Preferred)
4-6 years
of experience in hospital pharmacy operations or audits
Experience in NABH/JCI accredited hospitals is an advantage
